The 36th annual Girls Louisville Invitational Tournament is sponsored by Republic Bank and will feature 12 teams from Louisville and four invited teams from different areas of the state.   The first day will feature Fern Creek, Christian Academy of Louisville, Assumption, Presentation Academy, Mercy Academy, Ballard, Fairdale, and Moore.   duPont Manual, Iroquois, Sacred Heart Academy, and Butler will play the first round winners on the second day.   Pike County Central, Muhlenberg North, Central Hardin, and Marshall County will make an appearance in the quarterfinals (February 1st).   The semifinals and championship game will be played on Saturday February 2nd.  

Tuesday January 29

Moore (17-4) vs. Fairdale (15-5)

Moore Coach Dave Meadows started the following lineup:  5-7 Sr. Ashmere Woods, 5-9 Sr. April Herbert, 6-3 So. Ondrea Shaw-Beasley, 5-0 Sr. Quintisha Myles, and 5-2 Sr. Brandy Middleton.  Fairdale Coach Larry Bruner countered with 5-7 Jr. Kayla Thompson, 5-9 So. Nakhara Gaines, 5-8 Jr. Jreyanna Warfield, 5-6 Sr. Brittney Wieber, and 5-8 Sr. Ceira Ricketts

Moore outscored Fairdale 15-4 in the third quarter on their way to a 39-34 victory.   Moore held a 13-5 advantage in second chance points.  

Moore shot 35.4% from the field including two of 10 from the three point line.   The Lady Mustangs connected on three of six free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored eight points off 11 Fairdale turnovers.   Fairdale shot 26.1% from the field including only one of 17 from beyond the arc.   The Lady Bulldogs connected on nine of 17 free throws, grabbed 32 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 17 Moore turnovers.  

Ashmere Woods led Moore with 17 points and eight rebounds.  Brandy Middleton added eight points and five rebounds.  Ondrea Shaw-Beasley recorded seven points, 13 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Ceira Ricketts led Fairdale with 19 points and six rebounds.  Nakhara Gaines added six points and nine rebounds.

Christian Academy of Louisville's Allison Karst scored on a layup with six seconds remaining on the clock to seal the victory.   CAL shot 38.2% from the field including seven of 12 from the three point line.   The Lady Centurions connected on seven of 12 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 24 Fern Creek turnovers.   Fern Creek shot 54.1% from the field including four of 10 from beyond the arc.   The Lady Tigers connected on 10 of 14 free throws, grabbed 35 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 CAL turnovers.  

Antonita Slaughter led CAL with 25 points including five three point baskets.  Slaughter also pulled down six rebounds.  Clair Buchanan added 13 points.  Brooke Willoughby chipped in with 12 points and eight steals.  Monique Reid led Fern Creek with 29 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Sherrice Gaines added nine points.  Teonia McCune recorded five points, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Assumption defeated Presentation Academy by a score of 39-30.   Assumption shot 25% from the field including three of 17 from the three point line.   The Rockets connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 13 Presentation Academy turnovers.   Presentation Academy shot 30.8% from the field including one of seven from beyond the arc.   The Toppers connected on five of seven free throws, grabbed 32 rebounds, and scored three points off five Assumption turnovers.  

Lauren Huter led Assumption with 17 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Molly Ernst added eight points.  Kristyn Craven led Presentation with eight points and eight rebounds.  5-10 Sr. Emily Hettel also recorded eight points.  Emily Conklin chipped in with three points and 10 rebounds.

Sacred Heart scored 32 points off 31 Mercy turnovers in a 65-34 victory.   Sacred Heart shot 39.1% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.   The Valkyries connected on 25 of 30 free throws and pulled down 40 rebounds.   Mercy shot 19% from the field including one of 12 from beyond the arc.   The Jaguars connected on 17 of 26 free throws, grabbed 29 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 28 Sacred Heart turnovers.  

Autumn Miller led the victors with 20 points.  Kathryn Denbow and 5-5 Fr. Maddie Peabody added 12 and 10 points respectively.   Ellen Sholtes and 5-9 Sr. Amy Wimsatt led Mercy with seven points each.

Iroquois outscored Assumption 18-1 in the final quarter in a 53-32 victory.   Iroquois led 35-31 after three quarters but dominated in the final period.   Assumption was held to 12 points in the second half.  

Iroquois shot 35.1% from the field including three of 13 from the three point line.   The Lady Raiders connected on 10 of 15 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 22 Assumption turnovers.   Assumption shot 30.8% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.   The Rockets connected on five of eight free throws and grabbed 33 rebounds.  

Kayla Hickman led Iroquois with 19 points and six rebounds.  Adia Mathies added 12 points and nine rebounds.  Victoria Brown chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.  Molly Ernst led Assumption with 11 points including three three point baskets.  Lauren Huter added six points, six rebounds, and six blocked shots.

Tia Gibbs led Butler with 25 points and nine steals.  Tiara Hopper added 10 points and eight rebounds.  Kara Pile also recorded 10 points.  Ashmere Woods led Moore with 24 points and nine rebounds.  Brandy Middleton added 11 points.  Ondrea Shaw-Beasley chipped in with seven points, 11 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  April Herbert recorded four points and 12 rebounds.

Manual shot 34% from the field including two of seven from the three point line.   The Lady Crimsons connected on 15 of 30 free throws, pulled down 53 rebounds, and scored nine points off 17 CAL turnovers.   CAL shot 29.5% from the field including two of 13 from beyond the arc.   The Lady Centurions connected on nine of 18 free throws, grabbed 25 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 22 Manual turnovers.

Kathryn Denbow led Sacred Heart with 16 points and six rebounds.  Whitney Ising and Megan Smith added 11 and 10 points respectively.   Kylie Brady and Kaelyn Day led Central Hardin with eight and seven points respectively.

Butler took a 20-10 first quarter on their way to a 69-54 victory over Sacred Heart Academy.   Butler shot 46.9% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.   The Bearettes connected on 18 of 22 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 16 Sacred Heart turnovers.   Sacred Heart shot 35.6% from the field including five of 20 from beyond the arc.   The Valkyries connected on 17 of 27 free throws, grabbed 31 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 11 Butler turnovers.  

Tia Gibbs led Butler with 28 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and six steals.  Tiara Hopper added 16 points and six rebounds.  Shontel Bates chipped in with 10 points.  Autumn Miller led Sacred Heart with 17 points.  Whitney Ising and 5-5 Fr. Maddie Peabody added 14 and 10 points respectively.

Butler captured the Louisville Invitational Tournament title with a surprising score of 66-39 over Iroquois.   Butler shot 40.4% from the field including three of nine from the three point line.   The Bearettes connected on 17 of 25 free throws, pulled down 51 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 16 Iroquois turnovers.   Iroquois shot 23.7% from the field including two of 17 from beyond the arc.   The Lady Raiders connected on nine of 15 free throws, grabbed 36 rebounds, and scored eight points off 13 Butler turnovers.  

Tia Gibbs led Butler with 22 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists.  Whitney Reed added 14 points and seven rebounds.  Tiara Hopper chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.  Adia Mathies led Iroquois with 13 points and seven rebounds.  She was limited to 18:23 minutes and fouled out.  Asia Mathies added 12 points.

Conclusion

Congratulations to Butler for capturing the title this season.  The Bearettes captured their first LIT title since 1978 and established themselves as serious regional and state contenders for the championship.
