Scott County (8-1) vs. Lexington Catholic (7-5)
Scott County coach Billy Hicks started the following lineup: 6-3 Jr. Rodney Haddix, 6-3 So. Bud Mackey, 6-6 So. Jordan Lee, 5-10 Sr. Jesse Thompson, and 6-4 Jr. Matt Walls. Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-5 So. Taylor Stewart, 6-4 Sr. Mike Heissenbuttel, 6-6 Sr. Reid Brown, 5-10 Sr. Arian Green, and 6-3 Sr. Brian Hewitt.
Lexington Catholic rallied from a 66-61 deficit with 2:50 remaining in the game to take a 70-67 victory over Scott County in a rugged, physical contest. 6-3 Sr. Justin Burke hit two free throws with 11 seconds remaining to give the Knights a 70-67 lead and Scott County missed two field goal attempts in the closing seconds. This was a huge victory for Brandon Salsman and Lexington Catholic as Scott County entered the game rated number two in the state. Scott County had already beaten Ballard, Henry Clay, Holmes, and University Heights with their only previous loss coming at the hands of Brentwood Academy (TN). Circle February 18th on the calendar for a rematch as Lexington Catholic will visit Scott County in a late season game.
Lexington Catholic shot 42.2% from the field, connected on 12 of 17 free throws, and pulled down 45 rebounds. Lexington Catholic scored 18 points off 17 Scott County turnovers and held a 31-10 advantage in bench scoring. Scott County shot 36.7% from the field, connected on 20 of 25 free throws, and grabbed 33 rebounds. Scott County scored 19 points off 23 Lexington Catholic turnovers.
Brian Hewitt led the victors with 20 points. 6-2 Jr. Zach Newton and Reid Brown each added 13 points, with Brown pulling down eight rebounds. 6-5 So. Nathan Novosel chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds. Bud Mackey led Scott County with 22 points. Rodney Haddix added 12 points and Matt Walls, Jesse Thompson, and 6-5 So. Tyler Portwood chipped in with eight points each.
