PARTICIPATING TEAMS

Clarksville

The Clarksville Generals are coached by Troy Mitchell and compiled a 13-11 record last season.  They lost three key players to graduation including their numbers two and three leading scorers.  Clarksville returns six players who logged quality varsity minutes last season.  6-2 Sr. Candace Bain has given a verbal agreement to play at Butler University and she averaged 19.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg last season.  Other returning players expected to contribute include 5-10 Sr. Liz Cox (3.8 ppg), 6-1 Jr. Kaci Bain (3.7 ppg), 5-6 Jr. Meagan Appleby (6.2 ppg), 5-7 So. Kristen Martin (4.1 ppg), and 5-11 So. Liz Carey (3.6 ppg).

Henryville

The Henryville Hornets are coached by Brian Guernsey and finished with an 11-14 record last season.  Coach Guernsey graduated two guards who averaged in double figures last season.  The Hornets return 5-8 Sr. Kristen Hester (6.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg), and 5-5 Sr. Jessica Schott (4.0 ppg).  Henryville could also get help from 5-7 So. Krista Couch (2.8 ppg) if she stays healthy this season.  Other players expected to contribute are 5-2 Jr. Kayla Aguirre, 5-9 So. Jamie Everage, 5-4 Jr. Erica Carter, 5-3 So. Hannah Schott, and 5-4 So. Vanessa White.

Austin

The Austin Eagles are coached by Dan Deaton and finished with an 8-16 record last season.  The edition of the Eagles could be improved due to a mix of returning veterans and promising newcomers.  Austin should get senior leadership from 5-6 Ashley Hutchinson (10.3 ppg), 5-4 Kasey Lawson (2.0 ppg), and 5-7 Tiffany Thurston (3.0 ppg).  5-4 Jr. Sable Payne will add scoring with her 10 ppg average.  6-3 Jr. Jessi Cole is a newcomer who could provide immediate help.  Other players expected to contribute include 5-8 So. Courtney McGinity, 5-6 Jr. Allyson West, 5-7 Jr. Jennifer Turner, 5-3 Fr. Karen Deaton, and several other underclassmen.

Shawe Memorial

The Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers are coached by Dwight Inskeep and finished with a 2-20 record last season.  Shawe has six players returning from last year’s squad which should enable the Hilltoppers to notch more wins this season.  The leading returining scorer is 5-1 Jr. Katie Sommer (12.8 ppg), who is a legitimate three point threat.  5-5 Jr. Courtney King (8.0 ppg, 8.5 rpg) is the leading rebounder.  Shawe should get senior leadership from 5-6 Hillary Rucker (4.0 ppg).  Other players expected to contribute are 5-1 Jr. Sarah Barringer (7.0 ppg), 5-10 Jr. Erica Lemm, 5-6 So. Liz Kelly, and 5-4 So. Sarah Berry.  Coach Inskeep also has a group of five freshmen on the varsity.

Providence

The Providence Pioneers finished 15-10 last year and new coach Ty Anderson inherits a team that graduated eight seniors.  Coach Anderson must rely on two returning veterans, 5-10 Sr. Tara Cobb, who will play both the power forward and center positions, and 5-4 Jr. guard Jenna Warner.  5-3 Jr. Karlie Andres and 5-9 Jr. Emily Ernstberger are expected to contribute.

Trinity Lutheran

Trinity Lutheran is coached by Amber Williams and is in its second year for girls basketball.  They became a member of the IHSAA this past summer.  Three starters return in juniors 5-9 Jamie Hiser, 5-9 Rachel Keinath, and 5-6 Kim Meier.  Hiser was the leading scorer last season, averaging 10.7 ppg.  Keinath is expected to contribute both as a scorer and rebounder, and Meier is expected to be the primary ballhandler.  5-6 Fr. Micah Owens is expected to provide some quality minutes this season.

Charlestown

The Pirates are coached by Tony Hall and finished 10-16 last season.  Charlestown returns speed and size, and also has an excellent freshman class moving up this year.  The Pirates return three juniors along the frontline in 5-10 Michelle Grayson, 6-0 Kendra Stumler, and 5-9 Kelsie Thrasher.  Coach Hall also expects key contributions from several players including 5-9 Jr. Kim Gregory, 5-4 Jr. Amanda Picente, 5-10 Jr. Jana Davis, and 5-10 So. Jessie Kessler.

South Central (Elizabeth)

The South Central Rebels are coached by Randall Schoen and finished 22-6 last season.  The Rebels lost a lot of offense as they graduated guard Rachel Dixon who averaged 26 ppg last season.  The Rebels return four seniors:  5-7 Melissa Biesel, 5-9 Lindsey Haag, 5-5 Rikki Abbott, and 5-8 Shannon Bruner.  5-5 Jr. guard Samantha Troutman and 5-6 So. Sarah Pease should also contribute for South Central

This should be an excellent week of basketball culminating with the championship round at Clarksville High School on November 15th.  One of the top players performing this week will be 6-2 Sr. Candace Bain of Clarksville High School.  Miss Bain averaged 19.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg and was a Junior Indiana All-Star last season.  She has verbally committed to play college basketball at Butler University.
