MSUCorps

What is MSUCorps?

MSUCorps is an AmeriCorps national service program serving 11 Eastern Kentucky counties: Rowan, Carter, Bath, Elliott, Morgan, Lawrence, Boyd, Magoffin, Lewis, Fleming and Menifee. The administrative offices of MSUCorps are located on the campus of Morehead State University.

Fifty AmeriCorps Members work in collaborative partnerships with local Family Resource Centers and Youth Services Centers. Members serve in the schools as tutors and mentors to at-risk students. Members also work closely with the families of these children.

MSUCorps offers Members the ability to become productive in their community by offering training which enables the Member to participate more fully as a citizen.

Objectives of MSUCorps

1. To increase academic achievement by providing tutoring and mentoring to at-risk students.

2. To increase academic achievement by involving parents in the school.

MemberDevelopment

1. To train Members to develop leadership skills, tutoring skills, mentoring abilities and to enable Members to empower parents.

2. To provide service-learning opportunities for Members with skills which will enable them to obtain employment.

Community Building

1. To develop collaborative partnerships with the community organizations, businesses, and individuals.

2. To form an Advisory Committee which will address community problems related to improving the low-level of educational success of school-age children.
