Zebra Splendor Historical Romance/Oct. 1999

Deb Stover

Mary Goode has lost everything, her parents, her home and her beloved brother, and now at the age of thirteen fate has decreed that Mary is no longer a child. Mary's parents had died of a mysterious fever, her home and belongings were taken away and her brother placed in an asylum, because he was different from normal people. She sets forth on a journey to rescue her brother from the asylum and make a home for them far away from that dreadful place. When Mary finds her brother, Robin {so named because her father loved the story of Robin Hood}, she has a surprise awaitng her. Robin refuses to leave without his two friends, Tuck (a midget) and Little John (he has a hearing problem). The four travel to Indian Territory, close to Little John's family, and make their home there. For eight years they have a peaceful and contented life.....then Shane Latimer arrives.

U.S. Marshall Shane Latimer was hot on the trail of a band of outlaws called "The Merry Men" and the trail leads to Mary Goode's door. The Merry Men robbed from the rich and gave to the poor, and Shane had orders to bring them in. When Shane is bitten by a rattler and Mary nurses him back to health, he starts having fanasies about Miss Mary. Shane the confirmed bachelor, has met his match and there's no turning back. But must he now choose between duty and love?

A truely heartwarming story about families and accepting people for themselves regardless of any disability they may have. Deb does a fantasic job of writing about a sensitive subject matter. This is one book I would recommend to everyone and especially anyone who has a family member with a disability, this story touches the heart.

VERY GOOD
