From The Back Of The Book:
THE ISLAND
For generations the men and women of Volas had been separated---the warlike males living on the mainland, the peace-loving females in an isolated haven perpetually surrounded by the mist. Their only dealings were for purposes of procreation, and they were strictly scientific rather than sensual.
THE WARRIOR
Fiercely possessive, Jorlan found this state of affairs an affront to his male pride. He had swore he would restore the women of Volas to their men, particularly the fiery beauty Amala, who had chosen him as her long-distance mate.
THE WOMAN
Direct descendant of the first Amala, who had led her sisters into isolation one hundred years before, she bore a striing resemblance to her namesake. She wanted no man to dominate her, not even the charismatic Jorlan, who filled her with a strange longing to taste the forbidden pleasures of love.
REVIEW:
For two centuries the people of Volas have been separated--the males living on the mainland, the females on an isolated island. Their only dealings were for purposes of procreation, only in a scientific way . Jordan found this to be unacceptable, and he had plans to restore the women of Volas to their men. When a volcano errupts on the island, the men rescue the women and then begins the process and having the men and women learn to live together after generations of living apart.
This is an intriguing concept and Ms Dawson tells a story about a battle of the sexes on another planet, and how once something is started how hard it is to undo what is already done.
