Back-2-3 (also , hop-back-2-3, short-2-3) - This is a three in reverse. With the right foot in front, bring it up to your bum and then place it at the back. Step with the left in front, then step with the right at the back. This is usually done in a set of 2 at the end of a seven (cut-2-3-4-5-6-7, back-2-3, back-2-3).

Butterfly - This is really hard to explain in writing. With the right in front, hop up into the air; keep your toes together and swing the heels out (your feet are basically turned in). Keeping the toes together, swing the left foot through and cross it over the right; as you land, your feet should now be properly crossed and turned out. The trick here is to keep your feet flexed, not pointed down, while in the air.

Cut (also whip) - With the right in front, hop on the left foot while bringing the right up to the knee (or hip) of the left.

Double Switch (also switchie, flutter) - Jump up in the air with your right in front. While in the air, bring the left to the front, and then bring the right back to the front before landing with both feet at the same time. While in the air your feet should remain tight and pointed down.

Front kick - Kick one leg up and then kick up with the other leg as you bring the first one down.

Front Lift (also kick) - Bring one leg up to your bum, push it through and lift it at the front with the toes pointed.

Hop and Over-2-3 (also up-jump-2-3, lift-and-over-2-3) - This step is only done in a slip jig. With the right in front, lift the right knee up to your chest. Now extend the right out in front of you and jump over with the left (kick your bum with the left, extend it through and place it down in front of the right). Step the right down at the back.

Jump - Jump straight up and land with both feet at the same time. In the air, your feet should be turned out and toes pointed down.

Jump Back (also hop back) - Bring the knee of the front leg up to your chest and jump up on the weightbearing foot. Push the front leg back through behind the other leg and land with both feet at the same time.

Jump Down (also hop down) - Extend the front leg straight out in front of you OR you could bring the knee of the front leg up to your chest. While you're doing either one of these with the front leg, jump up on the weightbearing leg and land with both feet at the same time.

Jump-2-3 (also leap, sit jump, over-the-bridge, bird) - Do a three in preparation for this step. Then, bring one leg through while bringing the other leg to your bum. Land with the front leg first. Once you've got that one down, bring the other leg (the one that was kicking the bum) in front. To get more of a 'leap' in it, push off hard with both feet at the same time; just before landing, whip the back foot in front.

Point - While hopping on the weightbearing foot, extend the other leg out, knee straight, toes pointed, slight turnout from the hip.

Point-hop-back - Do a point (see above) then bring the foot you did the point with back up to your bum and place it at the back while hopping on the weightbearing foot.

Point-hop-back-2-3 - Do a point-hop-back (see above) then step in place with the front foot and then step in place with the back foot, just like you would in a three.

Push-Off (also spring up) - Transfer your weight onto your front foot. Now push off with it and lift it up (only about a foot off the ground, not very high). At the same time, bring your back foot up to your bum. Land with the front leg first.

Quiver (also double-down, up-up) - Bring your foot up to the knee of the weightbearing leg. Tap your knee with the foot twice and do a hop on the weightbearing foot simultaneously.

Rise and grind (also up-hop-back-and-back-2-3-4, closing jig step) - This step is always done at the end of a light jig, which is why it's sometimes called the closing jig step. Start with the right foot in front. Hop on the left while bringing the knee of the right leg up to your chest. Hop on the left again and bring the right leg to the back. Now hop on the right and bring the left knee up to your chest. Step the right in front, the left at the back, and the right at the front.

Rocks - With your feet together, go up on your toes and "rock" your ankles from side to side. You're moving from the ankles down basically; don't swing your hips.

Scissor Jump (also flutter, double switch) - Jump up with your feet together. Spread your feet apart then bring them back together and spread them apart again and bring them back together before you land. Your front foot never comes to the back and your back foot never comes to the front in this move.

Sevens (also sidestep) - Another very simple step, done sideways. With your right foot in front, bring the right foot up to the left knee and put it down at the front, while hopping up on the left foot (see cut). Then put your left foot behind your right. Put your right foot out to the side and bring in the left behind it. Then repeat; the right out to the side, the left behind it. Continue doing this for 7 counts (cut-2-3-4-5-6-7). A rule of thumb is that if you're going to the right your right foot is always in front, and if you're going to the left your left foot is in front. In a slip jig, this is done for 5 counts (cut-2-3-4-5).

Sink and grind (also first jig step, down-up-and-back-2-3-4) - This step is always done at the beginning of a light jig, which is why it's sometimes called the first jig step. With the right in front, point the right while hopping on the left. Then bring the right knee up to your chest and hop on the left. Hop on the left again and place the right at the back. Step the left at the front, the right at the back, and the left at the front again.

Slide - Bring one foot up to your bum and then place it out to the side. Drag the other foot behind it along the floor.

Switch Jump - With the right foot in front, hop up and bring the left to the front before landing. Keep the toes pointed down while in the air.

Threes (also skips, one2-3's, skip-2-3's) - This is the first step a beginning dancer would learn. With your right foot in front, bring it up to your bum and then place it down on the floor in front of you. Then step with your left foot at the back and then step with the right foot in front. To continue on, bring your left foot up to your bum, place it at the front, step down the right at the back and the left at the front.

Twist (also twizzle, swizzle) - Stand up on your toes, feet crossed and turned out. Swing the heels out. Before bringing them back in, pivot the back foot around to the front.

Zig-zag (also in-out, twist) - With your feet crossed over and turned out, go up on your toes and swing the heels out then bring them back in together. Your toes stay together.
