"Portrait of a Family"
The Xi Lambda Chapter was founded at Kentucky State University in 1936 and is the only Phi Beta Sigma Chapter in Kentucky at a Historically Black College. The charter line consisted of 12 members, among them,Dr. Henry E. Cheaney, one of only two living members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. to be inducted into the Distinguished Service Chapter of the Fraternity from the State of Kentucky. Xi Lambda suffered minor setbacks in its development on campus and in 1965, had dissappeared completely from Kentucky State College(as it was called at the time)until the rebirth in 1975.

Since then, Xi Lambda has enjoyed many successful endeavors. It was able to start the Mr. Kentucky State University Pageant. The University eventually adopted the pageant, and in 1995 Christopher Sanders, a graduate of KSU, was able to win Mr. Black Collegian from the post. In fall 1995, the brothers, sensing the need to adopt a organization dedicated to educating the students of Kentucky State University in the history and culture of thier people, created The Muntu Dynasty. Xi Lambda has set about the task of educating one-on-one students on campus, as well as individuals in the local community. This has been accomplished by hosting several noted speakers as Brother Steve Cokely, Brother Nasheed Fahkrahdeen, and others.

Xi lambda continues to embody the High Ideas of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Servicein Several Ways. During the 1996-97 School year, Xi Lambda had the highest grade point average of all fraternities on campus. The Chapter enjoyed its highest membership ever in the During the Fall 1996 semester with 18 brothers, Nine of which graduated in the spring. Brother Timothy Hill graduated Cum Laude and served as president of Alpha Kappa Mu Honors Society, An Academic Excellence Fraternity, during the 1995-96 school year. We Boast one of the most diverse chapters of Phi Beta Sigma in the Country. Brothers in the Chapters hail from such places as Quincy, Florida to Montreal, Canada, and all points between. The Fraternal Bond in the chapter crosses several Ethnic, Religious and Economic Backgrouds, proving to better epitomize the concept of a Universal Brotherhood.

As for service, we continually reach out to the local campus and greater Frankfort Area, donating time and effort, as well as funding to local charities and relief efforts. We Assisted in the clean up of South Frankfort after the Floods of Spring, donated money to The Sunshine House, (a local child and spouse abuse center in Frankfort) and sponsor an annual Sigma Sleepout for the Homeless, in which brothers take pledges for enduring harsh weather, the proceed of which go to local homeless relief efforts.

In so many ways Xi Lambda continues to strive for Scholastic Excellence, Display Finer Manhood, and Provide Humanitarian Service for the Franklin County Area. Xi Lambda-Striving for Excellence the Founders would be proud of.
