2X22

A Piori

WHILE INVESTIGATING A MYSTERIOUS DEATH, THE AGENTS COME ACROSS EVIDENCE THAT COULD COST THEM THEIR LIVES.

David versus Goliath. Promethus versus Jupiter. Mulder versus the Consortium.

For every age, there is a hero. For every hero, there is a quest. For every quest, there is a crisis, a moment of truth when everything the hero believed is torn apart and thrown at his feet. Then he's expected to rebuild it.

Such a moment has arrived in 2Shy's brilliant season finale "A Priori". If you read nothing else in the entire season, read this episode. The intensity will blow your mind. I think my brain is still smoking and I read it twenty four hours ago...

At the beginning of the episode, we find Mulder and Scully drawn out on yet another search for truth involving the disappearance of a "dead woman", Jane Acade. They quickly find themselves wrapped up in a conspiracy of the deadliest sort, reminiscent of the classic mythology days of "Blessing Way" and "Paper Clip" when the entire world seemed to have it out for our two favorite FBI agents. This time the stakes are no less as the two factions of the shadow governments vie for power and control. Any time the gods battle, mere mortals are going to pay for it, and Mulder and Scully quickly find these out as the dangers around them increase. The final blow comes as a shock to even the most jaded of fans, but this is a season finale....and in true Cartersque fashion, be prepared for some serious earth-shaking.

The writing is truly what makes the episode. 2Shy's characterizations are dynamite-- Mulder, Scully, Krycek, Skinner, and the mysterious Obsidian are in rare form. He has a rare gift for making even the minor characters, such as Jane Acade, come to life until they are as "flesh and blood" as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder themselves. The plot is riveting. Believe me, your eyes won't be able to move fast enough to keep up. The events unfold with intricacy yet clarity, just like an episode. The relationship between Mulder and Scully is subtle and at the same time beautiful, showing their concern for each other and their completion of each other as a team. It's the kind of thing that restores a girl's faith in fan fic.

As far as ratings, I give it a 20 out of 10. Is that legal? Maybe not, but this fic is anything but ordinary. Read and be amazed.
