AJ stepped into the bedroom and almost cracked up. There was the baby on the change table, the diaper half on, her shirt pulled up almost over her head, and her pants somehow managed to get across the room. There was diapers spread everywhere; baby wipes on the floor, and baby powder… well, lets not even go there.
“Man B! What are you doing? You’re supposed to be changing her!”
Brian turned around to face AJ. That simple move caused AJ to burst out laughing. All across Brian’s face was powder, a diaper was being stuck to his shirt by the little sticky stubs, and he had a baby wipe coming out of the top of his shirt, making it look like he was wearing a bib.
“I don’t find this the least bit funny!” Brian said through clenched teeth.
“Oh man! I wish I had a camera! This is definitely a Kodak moment!” AJ said in between his laughs. Brian stuck his tongue out, and turned around in attempt to finish his job. AJ stayed to watch, laughing the whole time. Finally, 10 minutes later, the job was done. Brian picked her up, handed her to AJ, who had no choice but to take her, and they all went to find Nick. They stepped into the playroom, and all looked at each other then back at Nick.
“Vroom! Vroom! Fire down the street! C’mon guys! We gotta save them!” he pressed the button making the siren start up. Jenny giggled, making Nick jump and turn to the guys.
“Oh, um, hi! Uh… you finally finished changing her? Well, then let’s go!” Nick said quickly, and got up to go downstairs.
“No, no, no. Nick, we just saw you playing with a toy. Were you deprived as a kid or something?” Brian asked, holding his hand out in front of him to stop Nick from going anywhere.
“N-no. I-I just wanted to, um…”
“You were just checking the fire truck to see if it was safe for Jenny to play with, right?” AJ asked, grinning.
“Yeah! That’s it! I didn’t want her to get hurt or anything,” Nick laughed nervously, looking around the room, secretly trying to find a way out. His eyes stopped at the window.
“Hmm, maybe if I crawl out…”
“Come on Nick. I think we should feed her now,” Brian said going down to the kitchen. Nick nodded, happy to be out of that embarrassing situation. AJ set Jenny in her baby seat at the table and the three of them went to work on the food. AJ grabbed a bottle from the cupboard and filled it up with milk.
“We heat it up right? Babies drink warm
milk?” AJ asked Brian and Nick.
They nodded.
“I guess so,” Brian shrugged. AJ stuck the bottle in the microwave, pressed a few buttons and sat down across from the baby. He looked at her and she looked back. AJ stared and she stared back. A few minutes later, Brian and Nick turned around and watched, obviously amused.
“Yo, Bone! What are you doing?” Nick asked.
“Shh! I’m having a staring contest. She’s about to crack!”
Brian and Nick shook their heads and turned back around, trying to get her food ready. They heard a groan come from behind them, and quickly turned around.
“She beat me!” he yelled. Jenny started to whimper.
“No, no! It’s ok! I’m sorry!” AJ started apologizing quickly. He pouted, causing Jenny to smile and laugh. The guys sighed in relief, not wanting to go through the screeching again.
BEEP! BEEP!
The microwave sounded. AJ got up to get the milk. He pulled the bottle out, and looked at it for a few seconds. The plastic felt a little warm. He turned it upside down over his wrist. He watched as a few drops started coming out of the top. As soon as they hit his skin, AJ let out a yelp and jumped. He dropped the bottle on the floor, and pushed his way through Brian and Nick to get the sink. He turned the water on cold and stuck his wrist underneath.
“What happened?” Brian asked, holding a bowl in his hands.
“I burnt myself!”
“How?”
“I tested the milk on my arm! It’s hot!”
“How long did you put it in for?” Nick asked. He thought for a moment.
“About 5 minutes.”
“5 MINUTES?” Brian and Nick asked at the same time.
“Yeah…”
“God! Did you want to scorch her poor throat or something? You’re only supposed to have it in for 30 seconds at the most!” Nick said, his eyes wide.
“Oops,” AJ smiled sheepishly. Nick shook his head, and went to pick up the bottle. He stuck it in the fridge for later, and started up a new one. It didn’t take long before the three guys sat down at the table ready for the task ahead, feeding. They all looked at each other and back at the baby, hoping this would go along smoothly.
