WRESTLER BIOGRAPHY: Shinja wass born in Detroit, Michigan to a Japanese family,
and waas given the name Twang Hi Li. At the young tender age of 5 his family
went back to Japan. He grew up there and learned to speak Japanese, English,
Spanish, French, and German. At the age of 11 his older brother, Matshuri, took
him to an AJPW show. Twang Hi fell in love with wrestling. At age 15 he began
training under Japanese wrestling legend Onita. At the age of 16 he first met
The Great Muta. The two became close friends and Shinja now credits much of his
wrestling ability to The Great Muta. Shinja was a traditionalist, that is until
he witnessed the IWA Japan King of the Death Matches that witnessed Cactus Jack
defeat Terry Funk in the finals. Shortly after seeing this Shinja debuted in IWA
Japan, at the age of 17, but couldn't cut it. He then flew to his birthplace of
Detroit and wrestled in MCW (Motor City Wrestling) His unique style earned him
critical acclaim and lots of belts. He wa!
s then contacted by WAV and UWA, two top indpendents based out of Las Vegas and
San Diego respectedly. After those two feds crumbled, Shinja was out of work. He
returnd to Japan to wrestle in RJPW, Ral Japan Pro Wrestling where he quickly
became a fan favorite thanks to his devastating finsiher, Utopian Nightmare.
Then at age 19 he was given a buzz by Rich Armani, owner of the AWA. Shinja was
brought on board as a trainer and paid amounts of money he couldn't believe. But
wrestling was his love, not training. He made one last trip to Japan and the
promotion IDW, Intense Dojo Wrestling. Here he became a Japanese Wrestling
legend by the age of 21. Chants of Shinja filled the arena. On his 22nd birthday
he was phoned by Michael Dupin, but turned down the offer to join the, then
EWCWF. He then traveled throughout Japan captivating crowds. Then two months
before his 23rd birthday he arrived at FWO headquarters and signed on, two
months later, he made his on-screen debut.
