THIS THING THEY CALL RODEO
Rodeo is my favorite sport, with bullriding and calfroping as my favorite events.
It's just some kind of recognized admiration I have always felt for the
sport. The thrill of watching these unusually attractive men play crazy
for the longest 8 Seconds of their lives, drives me back for more.
No doubt that one of my all time favorite movies is
8 Seconds
the touching depiction of a young man riding and dying for his dreams. What was
eerily haunting about this movie is how real it was, because even I remember
the day I overheard our local radio station air the news of a bullrider, by the
name of Lane Frost who had succombed in the only fate he could possibly
have. Watching the movie, only lead the viewers to understand
that bullriders are unique, yet sadly overlooked.
Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall,
I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be light unto me.
--Micah 7:8
Tip your hats to the real men in the sport of rodeo... the bullriders.
There's a hundred years of history,
And a hundred fore that,
All gathered in my thinkin
Goin on beneath my hat
The cold flame burns within him
Til his skin's as cold as ice
And the dues he paid to get here,
Are worth every sacrifice
All the miles spent sleepy driving
All the money down the drain
All the if I's and Nearly's
All the bandages & Pain
All the female tears left drying
All the fever and the fight
Are just a small down payment
On the ride he makes tonight
It's guts and Love and glory
One mortal's chance at fame
His legacy is Rodeo
And COWBOY is his name
--CODY, 8 Seconds
