AMERICA'S HUSBANDRY

Agriculture has always been my blood. Ofcourse growing up a farmer's daughter wasn't the desired choice of most adolescent and preadulthood girls. I was typical; always having a goal in sight that was shared by every other female my age..that was to be rich, to excel in every form of education, to be the most unique, highest paid, most intellegent female. In all of these materialized goals and society-embraced dreams a few details were neglected. I lost sight of what I wanted, what I found of interest, and what was important to me.

I was a late bloomer to an introduction to FFA. Advised by single-minded school counselors that for my 'standing' agriculture was a waste of time. That I could be anything THEY wanted..a lawyer, doctor, President/CEO, because I had the book sense that school officials like to see. I wasn't happy and it wasn't me. So you see I steered myself for most of my developing years away from my farm upbringing, denied my roots, and sought what everyone of those other's chose for me. Until I was introduced into the FFA and found the one thing that meant something to me, that I could feel whole within, that I understood, and that was Agriculture.

And that folks is how today I'm in my third year of college in Agriculture Science and intending to expand the ever declining and overlooked field of employment. I can say that people smile and snicker still today when I mention proudly my course of study, they'll have their "what in the world do you intend to do with that," replies but I know that this world, this country, this race of humanity was derived from Agriculture, and we shall perish at it's end.

FFA you see is what made me revamp my thinking. It made me see that book sense will only get you a limited way. That the nature and land is where I wanted to be. And with involvement and speaking out those dying American Farmers everyone feels sorry for, may be rejuvinated by the youth of today if only interest would be made. It all starts with a little bit of teamwork and 'learning to do' to make a change for the better in a few misguided farmkids like me.
