Darren awoke with a start, his heart pounding and his face slick with sweat. He became aware that Daniel had his hands on Darren's shoulders and had been shaking him and calling his name up until a moment ago. Reassured that Darren was now awake, Daniel let go and sat back in his chair.
"Bad dream?" he asked gently. Darren nodded slowly, still caught up in the images that had seemed so real. The sensations had been so vivid, Darren could almost still taste the blood in his mouth.
"What was it about?" Daniel asked. Darren was silent for a moment, then relented and began telling what had happened in short, almost cryptic, sentences. Daniel seemed to sense there was more to it than Darren had let on, but he wisely kept quiet.

"I'm saved." Darren muttered. Sleep was the last thing he wanted.
