He was surrounded by darkness, a complete and utter black, with nothing to relieve it, not even stars. A cold wind blew at him, like a blade of ice, cruelly cutting him. He shivered but remained where he was standing, he was here for a reason. Even if he couldn't remember what it was.
Then he realized he wasn't alone, there was something else out there. Out in the darkness. Watching him. He could feel IT all around him, a pressure that was slowly getting stronger. IT was like a stormcloud of sadness, waiting for something. Something from him. But he didn't know what.
He felt their mutual frustration, IT for not having ITs message heard and him for not hearing it. He tried to reach out but he couldn't see his own hand, didn't know what to reach for. Despair drowned him and he felt IT flee farther into the darkness, leaving him alone again.
Always alone...
Haze woke with a start, sitting up swiftly from his limp position at his desk. He must have fallen asleep again while working. The captain blinked blearily at his still-active computer while he tried to figure out what had woken him up. Then he realized that his intercom button was beeping at him.
"What is it?" Haze said in a slightly annoyed tone, rubbing his face as an unconscious gesture of tiredness.
"Sir, the prisoner is awake. Your presence is needed in Sick Bay!" a nameless officer said in a frantic voice. Haze sighed.
"I will be there shortly."
