I didn't make Escaflowne... Power to the people who did!

This takes place after the Escaflowne gumi return from the Mystic Valley
and escape from DaiBach. It's the night before everyone finds out about
Drydem and Milarna's marriage.

Scenes From the Unknown... Prologue: Afterdark.

Perhaps fettered by hope, or the dreary anti-climax of hapiness...
or maybe it was the wine. Taking a swift swig, he relished at the way
the liquor burned his insides. For a brief moment, he could almost,
just almost forget why he was there. But the brevity of pleasure was
quickly replaced by sharp pang of pain.

"Van-sama..."

Company huh. Funny how he felt so alone. As to the cause of his lonliness,
the answer floated airily, superimposed against the dark red of the liquid.

The sake must have been haunted. A similar figure danced in the cup
another young man. He gazed defeatedly at the taunting image. She'd
shown suspicious concern for a certain young king... His thoughts
were immediately curbed by the feel of weight pressing firmly, yet
gently on his shoulder.
"Alen..."

The knight swung his golden head to the direction of the voice.
"Ghadis."

"Campai!"

The man raised his glass. Alen sighed inwardly, raising his glass slowly.
A small smile cracked on his lips.

"Campai."

She smiled in childish content. A wish... A shooting star had just streaked
itself across the sky... She closed her eyes as stars twinkled passively.
Pale streams of moonlight bathed her cheeks. Her eyelashes carefully
fluttered open.

::Knock knock::

She turned abruptly to the dirction of her bedroom door. Her hair stood
on end... Was it possible??? she inhaled in anticipation.

"W-who is it?"
She stuttered nervously.

"It's me."

Hitomi sighed in relief upon hearing the feminine voice... After a quick
recovery, she opened the waiting door.

"Princess Elysee. What is it?"

"Welcome back."

"Thank you very much."

"You seem to be the only one in the palace. Van and Alen are still
celebrating I suppose."

"Really."

"I understand that you must be worn out from travelling, but tommorrow
morning, Drydem has asked that everyone gather in the study."

"The study?"

"yes, there seems to be an important announcement. I probably won't see the
others in time, so if you don't mind, will you inform them?"

"Of course."

"Thank you Hitomi. I'm sorry for bothering you.

"It's nothing!"

"Well, goodnight."

"Goodnight."

Hitomi pushed the door shut.

"That was hardly my wish."

Notes:

1. What's going on??
What I basically plan to do is fill in spaces in between certain
scenes and episodes after this one... scenes that weren't shown in
actual series... scenes from the unkown, hence the title... heck, it
will even include scenes after the end of the series...

2. This scene/prologue, was inspired by the episode after they
(Van, Alen, Hitomi) return from daiBACH after the mystic valley
abduction... It's the scene where Van and Alen are sitting in
a bar. I got slightly carried away. Oh well =:D

3. C & C appreciated!

Ja! ^-_~^

I didn't make Escaflowne... Power to the people who did!

This takes place after Drydem and Milarna's Wedding Disaster.
It's after Falken deflects... It's the scene you never saw
right after Falken and Hitomi have their cute conversation
by the fountain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenes From the Unknown pt. 1... Between Brothers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pink. The sky was pink with celestial coolness and fluffy gray clouds.
The wind rushed past carrying with it summer seeming scents.
She had stayed a bit before leaving, carrying with her a smile and all his
troubles.

Feeling freedom in all it's glory, he realized just how alone
he had been. How something as simple as 'conversation' could drag a
person from darkness to aching beauty... and the near sunless skies were
never so pink. He watched her retreat and perhaps from lonliness, or madness
magnified by his awakened senses, he held out his hand towards her.

But something bored his back. He turned swiftly, just barely noticing a
shadow shift sideways. Falken arched an eyebrow in calculated perfection.
Another wind whispered past, kissing the shadows of the tiny garden.
He knew who it was, and he succumbed to the temptation before him.

"It's getting dark, You should be preparing for bed."

"What the hell are you talking about!"
Van emerged from the cool shade, cheeks stained red.

A small grin crept on Falken's lips.
"Don't worry, I wasn't planning on hurting her."

A deeper shade of red splashed across the young king's face.
"Who said anything about that!"

Falken kept his composure.
"So you wouldn't mind if I visited her room?"

Van clenched his fists in shame induced rage. He was eaves dropping,
yet in the convergence of his anger, he unsheathed his sword.

Falken failed to control the deep laughter that escaped. It hummed
smoothly against the chirping of night birds.

The laughter penetrated Van's skull. He looked up at his brother, eyes
distant and bright. For a moment as he stared, it was if his brother had
returned. Van dropped his sword, sliding it gracefully into the saya.

Falken spoke.
"I have no interest in Hitomi, at least not that way."

"Well, Neither do I."

The moment was suspended in silence.

"At least she doesn't."
Van whispered audibly. His grip tightened on the hilt of
his sword.

Falken glanced at his brother. He looked away immediately, unable
to bear the crushing guilt. It was all too clear. Frighteningly
clear. It was his fault. It was he who separated his own brother
from the person he loved... must you destroy everything in his life?

A stream of self-reproach and regret flooded Falken's mind.
The pain was set, like his purple tear.

Van looked away.

"But what do you care."

A cold breeze blew, carrying Van into the moonlit darkness.
Falken looked up at the sky and it was unbelievably dark.
Shadows of stars glistened behind a purple curtian.

Notes:

1.Some parts seem hurried... like the part where Falken's thinking
that it's his fault that Van and Hitomi aren't
together... You know, from the spell or whatever that
forced Hitomi and Alen to be together... and to kiss!
2.C & C appreciated.

I didn't make Escaflowne... Power to the people who did!

This takes place almost directly after Hitomi goes back to Gaia with Van...
It's the scene you never saw when Yukari and Amano are forced to deal with
Hitomi's departure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenes From the Unknown pt. 3... A Bird in the Hand.

Big thanx goes out to Dharma!
She wrote...
<>

You really helped me a lot... Arigatou!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

She wondered how she ended up this way...
The ground felt impenetrably cold beneath her... and any desire of
motion and it's merits dwindled as the dazzingly bright field lights
penetrated her burgundy eyes. Besides... she couldn't bring herself
to look at him.

Amano watched the convergence of his handiwork in horror.
He was unaware of how much force he had used to push her away...
With a contrite heart he fumbled brokenly with the phone until it
connected with the waiting receiver.

She heard the light tapping of footsteps approaching. As they drew
nearer the sounds became increasingly exaggerated and hesitant.

He crouched down besides her.
All she could see was a vaguely familiar silouhette...
"I'm-"

He hesitated realizing how stupid he sounded... he could already
hear how stupid he sounded. He was sorry indeed... frighteningly so,
but talk was incredibly cheap.

He smeared callous hands across his face purposefully.
Maybe if he wiped hard enough he could erase the picture that
enfolded before him. He opened his eyes to find her still lying
there, unmoved save the fluid heaving of her chest as she breathed.
At least he knew she was still alive.
He chuckled nervously...

"I guess it is stupid to call the police."

He turned his head away.
"What am I supposed to say... While she was sprinting my girfriend got
whisked away by a scrawny prince on a white dragon."
Amano's voice waiverd almost hysterically.

"And I just stood there."

He rubbed his neck gingerly with his hand.
"I wonder if i'm hallucinating... I would ask you to pinch me
but..."

"But?"
Yukari airily replied.

Amano grinned in relief.
"But I was scared out my wits when I saw you hit the the ground...
that's all the reality I need."

Yukari grinned reflexively.
"Help me up."

He stretched out his hands towards her.

******

"Again, I'm really sorry."

Yukari laughed.
"Enough already! If you apologize one more time, I'm gonna smack you."

"... Yukari?"

"What?"

"Did you know she was leaving?"

Yukari shifted uncomfortably on the hard wood of the bleachers.

"I know you two are best friends... Did she tell you?"

Yukari nodded solemnly...
"But I didn't know it would be so soon."

"Did she say anything..."
Amano's deep brown eyes drifted away.

"About what?"

"...about that guy?"

His expression was boyishly hopeful. Yukari felt awkward, so she began to
shift again... he moved in closer... she felt herself flush... Just what
did Hitomi mean when she told her to go for it??

"Well?"

His voice caused her eyes to shoot open.
"Well, sort of. She told me that she had to see 'him' again."

"Really..."

She watched his expression crumble into dejection.

"So she really does know him..."

Yukari stared at his face. The moonlight slept delicately on his handsome
features. He was subtly charming.

He turned to her with a hurt smile.
"I guess i've been dumped huh."

"Sempai..."
her whisper was tinged with concern.

A light breeze wafted past. Yukari averted her attention to the
starry, moonlight heavens. The night skies seemed to tear as a shooting
star dripped down to the dark purple horizon.

"Look."
Yukari mentioned to Amano.

"Leave it."
His whisper was barely audible.

She turned to see a lonely tear begin to streak down his beautiful face.

Without warning, she reached towards with careful fingers and brushed
the tear away.

"That doesn't suit you."

Amano watched her in shock. She quickly focused her attention back to the
distant skies.

He could still hear Hitomi's voice ringing inside his head.
He wondered if he would ever see her again?

Yukari turned to him...
"Shall we go?"

hmm... Maybe he would get used to this? After all...
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush...
