She watched him from across the crowded room. He was talking with a couple of industry people no doubt, she could tell he was trying to keep his attention on the people but she could also tell he was trying to get away as politely as possible. A small smile appeared on her face as she sat down in the nearest available seat. He was so cute.
He caught her eye from across the crowded room, her long legs appearing from the short skirt she wore. He smiled and winked only so she could see and she smiled widely, he held up a finger motioning 'just one more minute'. She nodded in understanding. That was one thing he loved about her, she put up with his crap when she really didn't have to.
She waited patiently in the chair until he managed to break away from the industry people and made his way through the throngs of people to her. He smiled down at her and held out his hand. Smiling, she took it and let him lead her across the room to a small corner where they could actually hear one another.
He kissed her forehead gently and smiled, "I'm so glad you came."
"Me too."
"I thought you were mad.."
She shook her head, "I can't stay mad at you forever."
"True..I'm too cute and sexy."
She hit him playfully in his stomach and laughed, "Keep dreamin' buddy."
"Ok...as long as you're in them, it's all good sweetheart."
She laughed and leaned against the cool wall, "So..havin' fun?"
"Wasn't till you got here."
"Ohhhhh such the sweet-talker."
"I know, I know, I learned from AJ."
"Should have known...where are they anyways?"
"Who? The guys?"
"yeah."
"Somewhere over there..no doubt talking to other industry people...no offense to them or anything but they're boring..."
She smiled, "You mean, you have a short attention span."
"That too."
She took her hand and squeezed it in between hers, "I missed you."
"I missed you too."
No more words were spoken as the music around them got louder and the people swarmed in towards them. He smiled down at her, so happy she was there. They had an understanding that needed no words between them.
She leaned down, bringing the hand that was still in hers and kissed his hand that was so worn from drumming and playing a guitar and holding a microphone and signing hundreds of autographs every day. His eyes closed briefly at the feel of her lips, God how he missed her.
The music was pounding so loud now they couldn't hear one another if they had tried....they could barely hear themselves even think.
He pulled her close then, needing and wanting to feel her close again. It had been so long. He kissed her softly and leaned down, "I love you."
She smiled and hugged him tighter, missing him as much (if not more) than he had missed her since he had been on tour. "I love you too Nicky.."
"I missed you so much."
"Me too...if not more."
He smiled, "I think I missed you just a tad bit more."
"Umm..I don't think so."
He grinned, "No, I missed you more."
She rolled her eyes, "Ok, quit arguing."
"We're having a debate."
She sighed, "Anyways...wanna dance?"
He nodded, letting her lead him out to the crowded dance floor. He spotted AJ with Amanda dancing about five feet away and could see Howie dancing near them with some redhead. Kevin and Kristen were busy by the bar talking to a producer Nick vaguely recognized. Brian and LeighAnne were at the table, people-watching.
Nick smiled and pulled her towards him.
They had an understanding.
