Chapter 19

Lila carried Justin into his room while Kevin locked up the house and turned off the lights downstairs. He smiled as he watched her cradle him, kiss him gently, and put him into his crib. She turned and smiled at Kevin, "What are you doing?"

"watching you."

"Umm...why?"

He shrugged, "Just because.."

She closed the door behind them, "Well..I'm going to go to bed..I'm not sure I can keep up with you."

"With me??"

"Yea..you all stay out too late."

He laughed, "Are you serious?"

"Yea..Kevin, think about it, I get up at least twice a night with Justin.."

"Oh..I see your point."

She smiled, "I figured you would."

"So..what do you want to do tomorrow?"

She shrugged, "I don't really care..whatever you want to do is fine.."

He leaned down and kissed her cheek gently, "Well, think of something..ok?"

"Ok..night Kevin."

"Goodnight Lila."

The next day, Kevin took Lila (and Justin) for a drive around some parts of Orlando she hadn't seen yet. He drove past DisneyWorld; to which she just laughed. She had heard ALLLL about his bout as Aladdin.

He took her to a small restaurant he frequented alot on his time off and they sat there for about two hours before heading back to his house.

Kevin was in the kitchen getting something to drink while Lila sat out in the backyard in the soft grass with Justin. He smiled softly as he watched the two of them. He loved spending time with both of them, now that he had them living with him 24/7, he couldn't really imagine what life was like before them. He walked back outside into the warm weather and sat down beside her. She smiled at him, "Thanks for a great afternoon.."

"Not a problem..."

"So..was this our first date?"

"Yea..I guess..although, we really didn't do anything."

"Well..how about tomorrow you come with us when I go pick out a color to paint my room?"

He nodded, "Sure..sounds like fun."

She smiled, "Oh yea Kev, REAL fun."

"You want to come with me over to Nick's tomorrow evening? He's supposed to be having a barbecue or something.."

"Sure.."

Kevin picked up Justin who laughed as he pushed him up above him, Kevin smiled, this kid was always happy. Lila smiled, "He loves you Kev.."

"He's not too bad himself either.."

"I just...I really can't believe he's mine, you know?"

"Yea..."

Justin was busy rolling in the grass, pulling as many peices as his chubby little fingers could. Lila reached over and pulled strands of the green grass from Justin's hands as he tried to eat them, "No, no Justin..those aren't for you to eat..."

Kevin laughed, "Maybe it looked like that crap you try to feed him now.."

She scrunched up her nose, "It smells AWFUL."

"Then why try to make him eat it?"

"It supposed to be good for him..."

"Come on, let's go find a movie and find him something soft and cuddly to chew on."

"Don't you mean drool on?," She said as she picked Justin up and then stood up to follow Kevin.

Kevin watched Lila as she napped next to him on the couch, Justin tucked next to her in his favorite blanket. She had fallen asleep sometime in the middle of the second movie they had put in. Justin had been asleep long before then.

He felt her move and she sat up, "What time is it?"

"Almost midnight.."

She smiled, "How long have YOU been up?"

"I finished the second movie..."

"Ohhh..."

"Do you still...feel hesistant about being with me?"

She tucked Justin into his blanket a little more securly before answering him; trying to get her thoughts together. "Well...not really. I still..every now and then feel a pang of guilt...like I shouldn't be feeling this way...but I do..and I can only ignore my feelings for so long."

"I do too...I mean..I kinda feel like I'm moving in on my best friend's girl..ya know?"

She nodded, "Yea...but..I know Scott isn't coming back and I know he would want me to move on.."

"I'm glad you know that now.."

Lila bit her lip, "I just...I hate not knowing what the hell I'm doing? I kind of feel like I'm just...going with the flow. Usually, I'm so planned out and organized..and now I'm not. I mean, me and Justin have our own little schedule...but other than that...I'm just going with everything...and all of a sudden, I'm in Florida, surrounded by alot of people who have come to care for me and Justin so quickly...it's like I came into this with friends built in."

"Don't you like that aspect?"

"Yea..I mean, I love having LeighAnne and Sarah around...they're wonderful to hang around with...I mean, it's been a looong time since I had girl-friends to hang out with and go shopping with and stuff like that...and I love being with you Kevin..you make me laugh and you make me feel like..everything is going to be okay and that I'm doing okay.."

"That's because you are..you're doing wonderfully Lila.."

She smiled softly, "Sometimes I doubt it...and some days I could just stay in bed and mope.."

"Still?"

"It's not easy to lose someone you love..you know that."

"That I do.."

She leaned back against him, "You have made my life so much easier to deal with...you make getting up for the day an enjoyable thing..."

He kissed the top of her head, "I love the fact that you let me in Lila..."

"Couldn't keep you out Kev.."

He smiled, "That's true..I'm too stubborn."

She rolled her eyes playfully, "That's the truth!"

He smiled, "So..let's go tuck Justin into his bed for the night.."

"Ok.."

Kevin followed Lila upstairs and into Justin's room. Once again, he watched as she laid him down gently and kissed his forehead before tucking the blanket tightly around him and then flipping on the baby monitor. Kevin smiled, "I like watching you do that every night."

"Why?"

"I dunno.."

She smiled, leaving the door open a crack. "Interesting.."

"One question?"

She fought off a yawn, "What's that?"

"Can I kiss you?"

"You've kissed me before.," She said coyly, knowing fully what he had really meant.

Kevin smiled, "No..I mean...really kiss you.."

"Haven't you done that before?"

He was inches from her now when he shook his head, "I don't think so.."

"Well...I'm sure I would have remembered.."

"Mmm hmmm..."

"Of course you can Kevin..."

His lips met her gently and softly yet firmly, not wanting to scare her off but to let her know that he was there...and he cared.
