Jordyn laughed at something Nick said, while making sure the children were still in her line of eyesight. She'd learned in the short amount of time she'd been around Nick that he was a very funny, intelligent, friendly person. He cared an awful lot for his friends and for his family, but especially for his son who just held his whole heart. Brayden was almost exactly like Nick, they had alot of the same mannerisms.
"So..where are you from?"
She looked up as he asked her a question. Both had known the kids wouldn't be able to sit still in a regular restaurant so they ended up at good ole McDonald's. "Oh, I'm from Indiana."
"Where at?"
Indianapolis, actually. I lived right in the downtown area."
"Big city girl, huh?"
Jordyn smiled, "Yea..I like the city but I kinda like living here a little more..it's a city, but it's not so fast paced that it's overwhelming.."
He nodded, "Yea..I love it just 'cause it's near the ocean..."
"Brayden always been raised by the ocean?"
"Oh yea..he's a water-boy.."
She laughed, "I bet..do you live right on the water?"
"Yea..right on the beach, it's great."
"I bet..I'm looking for a place right now actually..I can't live with my brother forever.."
"Yea..sometimes I'd like to have another adult in the house, but then again, I don't."
"Yea..I don't want a roommate, I'll probably have Katie and Michael enough as it is.."
Nick stood up to throw away his trash, "You done?"
She nodded and he took her trash as well, "Thanks.."
He nodded and disappeared around the corner to throw it away and then came back again. Jordyn looked up at him, "So..you married?"
She'd figured a good-looking guy like him with a kid had to be married. But, she could tell as soon as she had asked that it was a sore spot. Nick kind of winced and shook his head, "No..his mother isn't around."
"Oh geez! I'm sorry! I..I...God, I'm an idiot..I'm sorry Nick."
He smiled a little, "It's okay, really..you didn't know. You couldn't of known. We were public...but the fans were never too fond of her...she left soon after Brayden was born, about two or three months I guess...and he's been with me ever since."
"Do you ever regret having him?"
"No. He's like...he's like the light at the end of the tunnel. When he's not in the house, it's like I can't function..everything's bright when he's around."
She smiled, "That's sweet."
Nick grinned, "I'm a sweet kinda guy."
Jordyn laughed, "Oh, okay!"
"No, I'm joking..but it is the truth..he's the most important person in the world to me.."
"Have you talked to his mother?"
"No. I don't even know if she's still alive...and really, to put it bluntly, I don't care. She wasn't the best person in the world and I should have realized that a long time ago.."
"I'm sorry..."
"What are you sorry for? I got a great son out of the deal.," He said with a proud father's smile.
"I'd like that one day.."
"What? A kid?"
"Yea..maybe one..or two...at the most. I don't think I could handle more than two.."
"One is enough, believe me. I don't know how my parents did it, they have five kids...it had to of been tough..and we weren't the richest people in the world."
"Yea..my parents were the same way, and they just had me and my brother. My mom absolutely loves having grandchildren..she spoils Katie and Michael sooo much...but I swear, if she doesn't quit asking me when I'm gonna get married and have kids I may scream.."
"Moms are like that..I think it's in their genes."
Jordyn smiled, "Could be.."
Brayden came in, followed shortly by Michael and Katie. Brayden crawled into Nick's lap, laying his head on his father's shoulder. Nick pressed a kiss to his head, "What's wrong kiddo?"
"I tired daddy.."
"Oh you are?"
"Uh huh.," He replied with a nod.
Katie tugged on Jordyn's sweater, "I tired too.."
Jordyn looked at her watch, "Well, we gotta get goin' anyways, your dad will be home soon..he'll wanna see you guys."
They packed up the kids and walked out to their respective cars. Nick put Brayden into his carseat before turning to Jordyn, "I had a really good time.."
She smiled, "So did I..it was fun having another adult to talk to."
He grinned, "Yea...I'll see you around, alright?"
She nodded, "Yea..see you around Nick...bye Brayden."
Brayden waved tiredly, "Bye, bye!"
Nick sighed as he listened to Brian ramble on and on about whatever he had done that day on the phone. "B? Can I ask you something?"
"Yea..what?"
"Well..I saw that girl I met in the grocery store again..'member the one I told you I was lookin' at in the club?"
"Yea.."
"We went to McDonald's with her neice and nephew and Brayden.."
"How was it?"
"It was...it was nice."
"Nice? Just nice?"
"Yea...she's really cool Bri.."
"That's good Nick...do you think you'd like to see her again? Maybe...without the kids?"
Nick sighed, he knew that question was coming, "Yea...I think I would Brian..."
Brian smiled, "Good...that's real good Nick.."
