Jordyn was sitting on her couch, reading a book when the phone rang. She glanced over at the clock and saw it was nearing midnight. But, she shrugged and picked up the phone, "Hello?"
"Hi..," Nick replied, sounding tired.
"Hey...you still awake?"
"Just woke up, actually. What are you doing?"
"Reading."
"You're not tired?"
"Not really."
"Oh."
"Yeah....how's Brayden?"
"He's alright...he really enjoyed spending today with you.."
"Well, I enjoyed having him."
"I'm sorry..."
"For what?"
"For everything I said earlier, I shouldn't have gotten mad at you considering you're just tryin' to help."
"So now you realize it?"
"Yea..," He replied with a low chuckle.
Jordyn smiled, "Well, it's about damn time. So do you feel better?"
"A little bit. I think I just needed to veg for a day...and I got it done...I've kinda got cabin fever now.."
"I bet..you were inside your room all day long.."
"Yeah.....," He said trailing off.
Silence ensued between them as neither really knew what to say. Nick finally sighed on the line, "I'm also sorry that Brian is such an ass sometimes."
"Me too."
"He doesn't know what a wonderful person you are..."
"Maybe someday he will, huh?"
"Hopefully. I told him that if I, of all people, can give you a chance...then he could to. And I think I may have actually gotten through."
She smiled, "As sweet as it is that you stood up for me like that, I have to see it for myself Nick....to know that he truely is going to give me a chance."
"I just hope I haven't screwed up what me and you have..."
"What do you mean?"
"I think I really fucked up this time, Jord. I felt like you were pulling away from me..."
"Nick...."
"For the first time, in a long time, I felt like I....I felt like I couldn't NOT have you around....I figured you'd be screening your calls and wouldn't answer if it was me."
She smiled, "Do I seem like the kind of person that would do that?"
"Well.....no....I guess not."
"Okay then. I will admit, it did kinda hurt my feelings for you to yell like that...but I think I can understand, and I know that I can forgive you. On one condition, of course."
"Oh, of course there's a condition. What?"
"You have to take me out."
"On a date."
Jordyn hesitated, but then laughed, "On a date, yes."
"And that's your only condition?"
"Yep."
"I don't think you'll have to force me."
"Oh, well, okay then..."
"What time should I pick you up?"
"Wait, when are we going?"
"Oh I uh, I thought we'd go tomorrow er, tonight."
She looked at the clock, realizing it was 12:30, well past midnight now. "Tonight? What about Brayden?"
"My mom called earlier, she said her and dad 'need' to see him...and he was excited about the prospect of getting to see his Uncle and Aunts, so I said 'sure'."
"Oh...well...okay."
"So.....?"
"So....what?"
He laughed, "Jordyn! What time should I pick you up?"
"Oh yeah! Sorry, I forgot the question....ummm...I don't know..."
"How about...eight?"
"Okay, eight it is."
"Okay...I'll let you go then, I know you have to be tired now..."
"Well...now that you mention it...," She replied between a yawn.
Nick chuckled deeply again, "See, told you."
"Yea, yeah, yeah. Give Brayden a kiss for me?"
"Sure will. And what about me?"
"What about you?"
"Do I not get a kiss?"
"We'll have to see on your behavior tonight."
"Ooohh...I get it."
"Yea....bye Nick."
"Bye Jordyn..."
