The next day, all Colin could talk about was about how his dad was finally back and all the things he wanted to do with Trevor and all the things they would do together. He went on and on and on and on. Madalyn didn't have the heart to tell him to stop, he was so excited. So, when AJ said he needed to go to the store for some groceries she said she had a headache and asked if he would take Colin with him.
AJ happily perched the boy on his back and hopped out to his Expedition and put Colin into the backseat, making sure he was secure in the seatbelt. "Lemme go grab the list from your mom and we'll be on our way,k?"
"Okay!"
AJ jogged up to the front door and took the peice of paper from Madalyn. "You okay?"
She nodded, "Yeah..but I really do have a headache J."
"Uh huh..anyways, mind if me and the kid stop and get some McDonald's?"
"Nope.."
He looked at her over his sunglasses and grinned, "Can I bring you back something?"
She shook her head, "No..I'm cool."
"You sure? No one ever usually passes up Mickey D's...."
She nodded, "Fine, bring whatever.."
"Cool..go lay down, you'll feel better, I promise. Drag Vegas and J.D. up there to keep you company..," He said pulling her forward and kissing her forehead gently, "We'll get through this okay? He's not going to hurt either one of you, I won't let him."
She nodded, "I know.."
"We'll be back."
"Ok."
All the way to the store, Colin blabbered on and on about how great it was that Trevor was back. Then, he asked the question that AJ didn't really want to answer.
"AJ?"
"Yeah kiddo?," He replied looking in the rearview mirror.
"Do you think that now that my daddy is back that him and mommy will be back together and we can go live back in our old house?"
AJ sighed and concentrated on the road. "I don't know Colin, you're going to have ask your mom...you know your dad hurt you mom when he left, right?"
Colin nodded, "Yeah! But now that he's back mommy won't have to be sad no more.."
"That's true..but..I think you better ask her about that..ok?"
"OK!"
AJ held on tightly to Colin's hand as they entered the grocery store. It wasn't too crowded but Colin liked to run off sometimes so AJ had to be careful. "Okay, first things first, let's get us a cart, ok?"
"K!"
AJ put Colin into the seat in the front of the cart and began the journy to the dairy aisle.
Madalyn was sitting outside with the two puppies when AJ and Colin came home. Colin hopped out of the back and ran to his mother, "Hi mommy!"
He launched himself into her arms and she hugged him while trying to keep her balance, "Hey sweetie! Did you have fun?"
"Yep! We got McDonald's too!"
"Awesome, go on inside and I'll be in in a minute, ok?"
"Alright!"
AJ got out, grocery bags and McDonald's bags seeming to weigh him down. Madalyn stood up and brushed off her jeans and went to help him.
"Did you have a nice nap?"
She nodded, "Yeah..it was sooo quiet."
"I bet.."
She smiled, "Your dogs are very comfortable nap partners.."
"Told ya. Look, you know Mads, that anytime you wanna go out by yourself or whatever, I'll take Colin..he's a cool kid."
"Thanks J..I might just take you up on that offer one of these days..."
They walked into the house and into the kitchen. Colin had already set himself at the table and was waiting almost (too) patiently for the two adults to join him. He smiled, "Come on you guuuyys! It's time for your date!"
AJ and Madalyn shared a look before they smiled and took their "date food" to the table to join him.
What Madalyn didn't know was that AJ really wished it was their date.
He had been planning on asking her out after Colin's birthday but Trevor's appearance had ruined that.
AJ didn't know whether Madalyn still wanted Trevor to be apart of her or Colin's lives...but he wanted to be.
