Alexa rolled over and her eyes opened slightly, her brain trying to wake up and figure out what the annoying noise was that woke her up from a deep sleep. One arm reached out and felt around on the nightstand for the thing ringing off the hook, she leaned up onto her elbows and brought the offending peice of machinery to her ear, "Hello?"
"Lexi?"
Her brain woke up, only one person ever called her that. "Justin? What are you doing calling me at....at..three o five in the morning?"
"I...I need a ride home.."
"Where are you?"
"I dunno."
"Justin! Are you DRUNK?!"
He laughed, "Yeah!"
She rolled her eyes, "Okay, okay, where are you?"
"Ummm..downtown.."
"Where downtown?"
"Guess.."
"Umm..no, how about you just tell me so I can come get you and beat you senseless?"
"Smartass."
"I know."
"Emma was such a smartass too..her and Chris could have these looong conversations that were just them pickin' on one another...you two would have gotten along good Lexi..."
"Wonderful J..wonderful. Where are you?"
"I don't know damnit.."
"Are you there by yourself?"
"I'm in a phone booth, I am by myself."
Alexa pulled on a pair of jeans and found her sneakers lying by the closet, "Ok..I'm going to hang up, do you remember my cell phone number?"
"Ummm...."
"Have a pen?"
"Yep."
"Write this on your hand, okay, promise?"
"Promise...and I never break promises..not to you or anyone..I never broke my promises to Emma..she made me feel bad if I even tried to--"
"You're rambling Justin..write this down, ok?"
"Ok."
"557-8906....k?"
"Yep."
"What'd you just write down then?"
"Your number.."
"Read it to me.."
"Lexxxiiii...," He whined.
"Read it."
"Fine. 557-8906.," He grumbled.
"Ok..now, I'm going to hang up, you stay there and in like two minutes, call my cell phone, I'm on my way to find you but I'm going to need your help, ok?"
"Ok.."
"Ok..call me when?"
"Two minutes."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
"ok..I'm hanging up now."
"Bye."
She hung up the phone and went to find her keys, grabbing them and her cell phone off the kitchen table. She then went downstairs and went out to her car. She had just pulled out onto the main street when her phone rang. "Hello?"
"Hi."
"Hi Justin."
"Did I wake you up? 'Cause I'll feel reeaaally bad if I did..I didn't mean to wake you up. I just needed someone to come pick me up..I don't know exactly where I am but I know I'm too drunk to drive...I don't wanna hurt anyone Lexi, I really don't..but I think I pissed Joey and Lance off..they came with me tonight..they got mad at me and left..so I stayed and drinked..."
"Drank."
"That too."
"Okay, it's okay Justin, it's okay that you woke me up, really. Now, I'm coming down Main Street, what bar were you at?"
"Hannigan's...but then we went to Vertigo.."
"Were you at Vertigo when the guys left?"
"Yeah.."
"Are in the phone booth on the corner by Vertigo?"
"I guess so.."
"Ok, I'll be there in like two seconds...just hang on."
"Ok."
She manuevered the car through the empty streets and came upon the empty club Vertigo. There was a phone booth that was about 200 feet from the entrance to the club on the corner of the street. She parked the car on the corner and got out, she couldn't really see into the phone booth but she could see the dim, white light that lit it up. "Justin!"
She saw movement and the small door opened and he stepped out. "Lexi?"
He looked awful, if that was even possible. His shirt was untucked and wrinkled. His pants were baggy and wrinkled as well. He looked so tired and worn out and looked as if he had been crying at one time.
She sighed, "Come on, I'll take ya to my place."
"I'm sorry Lexi.."
"For what?"
"Waking you up and making you come pick me up..I just...I couldn't think of anyone else to call..."
She put her arm under his and helped him to her car, "It's okay Justin, I'm not mad, really."
"Promise?"
"I promise Justin."
She got him in and put the seat-belt across his chest. She then walked around to the driver's side, got in, and drove towards her place. "How much did you drink?"
He sighed, his head leaning against the cool window, "I dunno....not alot..."
"Your tolerance is low.."
A laugh came from him, it was low and raspy, but it was a laugh nonetheless, "It is..It really, really is.."
"And aren't you still 20?"
He nodded, then groaned at the movement, "Yeah....Joey bought me whatever it was.."
"Ohhhh..I see.."
Alexa helped Justin up to her apartment and sat him on the couch while she went to go find him some clothes Dan had left at her place once before and to get him some aspirin and water. She found some shorts and a t-shirt and handed that to him, then led him to the bathroom.
Justin emerged ten minutes later, looking a little better. He groaned and laid down on the couch, "I am NEVER drinking..ever again."
"Yea right...here, drink this and take these."
"Thanks.," He said taking the glass and the pills from her.
"No problem."
He took the two pills and drank all of the water. "Do you hate me?"
She smiled, "No..I don't hate you..lie down."
He did so and she covered him with a blanket, "I hope this is okay J, I'm afraid I only have one bed and I'm sleeping in it."
He smiled, "It's fine...I'll be out of here in the morning, I promise."
"You're welcome to stay here whenever you need to, we're friends Justin."
"Ok..thanks.."
"Get some sleep Justin, I'll see you in the morning."
He nodded and she turned out the lights. "Goodnight Alexa."
He heard her door click shut quietly and he sighed. He felt a little better but he couldn't really comprehend why he called Alexa..he could have called JC or Chris but the first person to pop into his head was her...he didn't know why...but he was glad he did.
