Chapter 5

Isabel had driven to Nick's house with a few directions from him. She pulled up and punched in the security code, which he told her, and pulled into the driveway. Nick stumbled out of the car and towards his front door. He tripped over one of the steps and fell to his knees, groaning. Isabel was at his side in an instant, "Are you alright?"

"Yeah..just..help me up?"

She nodded and helped get him up, "Did you hurt yourself?"

"Probably just bruised a little..Isabel?"

"Yeah.."

"I need to get inside..now."

She knew what that meant, he was about to be sick. 'Oh grrreeat..,' She thought as she hurridly unlocked the front door.

Nick all but ran to the bathroom in the hallway and she could hear him throwing up his drinks from the night.

Isabel found the kitchen easily and grabbed a glass of water, aspirin(which took a little more searching to find), and wet a small washcloth and went back to the bathroom where Nick was hunched over the toilet. He groaned, "I hate this."

She nodded and knelt down beside him, "I know you do Nick..drink this and take this."

He took the glass shakily and the pill and swallowed them both. She helped him up and took him down the hall to the living room. She turned on a small table lamp as he laid down on the couch. "Are you staying here?," He asked as he covered his eyes with his arm.

"I'm gonna have to, if you don't mind?"

"No..it's fine..I'm..I'm glad I don't have to be alone tonight.."

She smiled faintly, "You don't ever need to be alone Nick."

"But..I am..no matter who or what I'm around, in all honesty, I am alone."

"What about the guys?"

"Yeah they're there...but not like it used to be.."

"You've changed Nick."

"How so?"

She sat down in a chair across from him, "I don't know..I haven't been around you long enough yet to tell how you've changed. It's like..you're a completely different person."

"It's been years Isabel..people change."

She nodded and crossed her legs, it was going to be a loooong night. "Yeah..they do..and sometimes its for the better.."

He groaned and sat up, "I've changed for the worse.."

"Why do you say that?"

"Look at me Isabel! I'm nothing but a pop star who goes out at night and drinks to oblivion and then can't remember what or who he did the night before!"

"How many one night stands have you had?"

"None..Kelsey's usually with me.."

"Oh."

"If a girl even looks my way, she'll pretty much beat the shit out of them."

"Oh..well thats a good girlfriend for ya."

He nodded, "I know..I think I may break up with her..she's just...overbearing...and annoying."

Isabel smiled, "Glad you think of your girlfriend so highly."

"I'm sorry..I'm probably boring you with my little rant..Ummm..the guest room upstairs, second door on the left can be yours...I'm not sure if I have any clothes you can..you know, wear.."

"That's okay..but I am tired so..I guess I'll head up. You know Nick, that even though..we're not as close as we used to be...that you can still talk to me about anything. I don't hold grudges for very long."

She saw his blonde head nod, "I appreciate Isabel."

"I'm gonna go on up..are you going to stay down here?"

"For a little while longer...I'll see you in the morning."

She nodded and walked towards the stairs, "Okay."

The next morning Isabel was rudely awakened by someone screaming...very loudly. She sat up in the bed, confused for a split second, before she remembered what had happened the night before and that she was in Nick's guestroom. That thought was interuppted when she heard something crash to the floor. She had raided Nick's room, without him knowing, and had grabbed a t-shirt and finally found in the room she was in a pair of shorts that had to be women's, they were too small to be men's. She crawled out of the bed and opened the door quietly. She could hear a female's voice screaming downstairs at who Isabel guessed was Nick. She crept down the stairs almost scared to even go in the living room. "God! You are SUCH a dumbass sometimes!!," The female yelled throwing a picture frame down the hall.

Isabel's eyes widened as the picture frame broke at her feet. The voice suddenly clicked in her mind: Kelsey. 'Oh shit, she must of seen me and freaked out on Nick! Oh grrreeat..,' She thought as she heard Nick trying to defend himself.

"Kelsey, it's not like that! I was drunk last night and she drove me home, that's IT. Why won't you believe me?!"

"I know how you are Nick Carter!!"

"No, you think you know who I am but in actuality, you have no clue who I really am!"

"Oh just shut up!! You're down here trying to defend yourself while that..that...whore is upstairs sleeping in YOUR clothes!!"

Isabel was going to have to interupt; this was so not right. "That's not true Kelsey! You won't even listen to my explanation!"

"Nick's right, maybe you should listen to his side of the story instead of coming up with your own conclusions.," Isabel said from the corner.

Kelsey spun around, fire practically spitting from her eyes, "Yeah, well no one asked for your damn opinion."

"Yeah well, I'm tired of listening to you scream and throw things at him when you don't even know half the story. Nothing happened between me and Nick, period. I drove him here, I slept upstairs in the guest room by MYSELF, I plan on going home after I change and get my stuff together. Nick was drunk and I was not about to let him get either chewed out by Kev or let him drive himself home; he was too wasted."

Kelsey put her hands on her hips, "And why should I believe you?"

"You have no reason to, but in the same way; you do. You don't know me and you don't know how I am. Yes, I took Nick's shirt because I can't very well sleep comfortably in leather pants, thank you very much."

"No one asked you to go to the club with him."

"I didn't go with HIM, I went with AJ."

"So now you're sleeping with AJ? Oh that'll go over REAL well with Amanda."

Isabel rolled her eyes, "You know what? I don't have to stand here and listen to your shit, it's ridiculous."

"Awww..did I hit a bad cord with the perfect Isabel?"

Isabel rolled her eyes again, "You, for real, don't want to mess with me Kelsey."

"Is that a threat?"

"Hell no, it's a promise."

"Oooohh, I'm sccarrreeed.."

Nick sighed, his head was pounding, "Kelsey, just STOP egging her on, please!"

Kelsey turned back around to Nick, "Quit defending her!"

"I'm NOT! I'm trying to stop a fight before it happens!! Just...just..leave! I'll call you later!"

"I am not leaving you here with HER!"

"Kelsey! It's my house, therefore, I can have whomever I want in MY house, I don't want to deal with you right now..please..just go..cool off some and we'll talk."

"Screw you Nick Carter.," Kelsey said before storming off, shoving Isabel hard against the wall, and leaving.

Nick helped Isabel up, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

She shrugged him off and started up the stairs, "I never thought I'd see the day where you dated a psycho Nick."

"Isabel..please..don't be mad.."

She sighed and stopped halfway up the stairs, "I'm not mad at you Nick. You know I can't stay mad at you for very long. I'm tired still and your girlfriend is a total bitch, sorry to say it, but she is. Can you just take me home?"

He nodded, "Yeah..lemme grab some other clothes and I'll take you home."

"Okay."

The drive home was in almost complete silence. Nick pulled up in front of Kevin's house and Isabel got ready to get out. "I'm sorry about this morning Isabel."

She smiled at him, "I know Nick..I just..I just think you need to get your priorities together..and figure out who you are. Because if you don't, it could destroy you."

"You'll be at the rehearsal, right?"

"Of course."

"Think we could...go out afterwards?"

She shrugged, "We'll see..okay?"

He nodded, "Good enough for me..."

She opened the door and got ready to step out. She leaned back across the passenger side and kissed him gently and quickly on the cheek, "You're a good guy Nick and you deserve a good woman who'll be there and understand you. I'll see you later."

"Bye Isabel."

She shut the door and started up the front steps and disappeared inside the house.

Nick pulled away from the curb and started for home, again, thinking, 'But..Isabel..you are that person that understands me...why can't you see that?'
