Chapter 18

Four Months Later

It was middle of the night..okay, early in the morning. Whatever. AJ heard the faint cries of one of the babies. He groaned and sat up a little. Taylor rolled over and said sleepily, "Want me to go?"

"No, you sleep..I'll go..," He said getting up.

"Okay."

He shuffled into the babies room to see Nicholas on his back crying his little heart out. "Ohhh..hey little man..come here..whats the matter, huh?," He said softly as he picked him up.

Nicholas calmed down a little but a second later began crying again. "Come on Nicky..whats wrong? I know you don't need a diaper change..its 3 a.m...I wish you could talk...and tell me whats wrong.."

He sat down in the rocking chair, putting a blanket over Nicholas. He rocked back and forth, almost lulling himself to sleep but it wasn't working with Nicholas.

In the master bedroom, Taylor heard Nicholas start to cry all over again. She threw the covers off of her and padded her way into the babies room. She stopped short when she saw the most adorable sight. AJ half asleep in the rocking chair, Nicholas still crying a little. Taylor leaned against the doorframe and watched as AJ began to sing softly. It was the Phil Collin's song from 'Tarzan'.

You'll be in my heart, yes you'll be in my heart From this day, now and forever-more You'll be in my heart, yes you'll be in my heart..and I can't remember the words cause I'm so tired..and I hope this gets you to sleep..oh yes I hope it gets you to sleep..to... to..sleep..

Taylor almost laughed at loud. AJ couldn't remember the words so he just made them up. Now he was almost dead asleep. As was Nicholas. She walked in and took the sleeping baby out of AJ's arms. He opened his eyes sleepily and saw her put him down. "He fell asleep?"

"Uh huh..thanks to your version of that Phil Collins song..," She said covering him up and checking on Christopher.

AJ smiled, "I got so tired and relaxed I couldn't remember those words.."

"Come on..let's go to bed.."

Taylor crawled into bed and pulled the covers up to her. AJ crawled into the bed beside her and rolled over, to face her. "Taylor?"

"Hmm?"

"Come here..," He said in a whisper.

She opened her eyes, "AJ..its way too late.."

"Come here.."

"Ugh..you don't give up."

"Nope."

She snuggled closer to him and sighed as he wrapped his tattooed arms around her waist. "I love you..you know that?"

"Uh huh..I love you too AJ..now can we go to sleep?"

"I guess.."

AJ groaned, he was down in his studio trying to work on a song. Even with the door closed he could still hear the two babies crying. It was a neverending cycle..just when he thought they were asleep or something..they'd start up again. "God..can't she keep them quiet for more than 20 seconds?," He mumbled rubbing his face.

Upstairs, Taylor was running from carrier to carrier, trying to get the twins' to calm down. She rolled her eyes heavenward and sat down, she picked up Christopher and began to rock him.

The basement door swung open and AJ stomped in. "Can't you keep them quiet?!," He exclaimed.

"I'm trying..I'm sorry.."

"I'm down there trying to work on a song and all I can hear is those two crying!"

"AJ! Quit yelling! You're making it worse!"

Nicholas began to wail again. Taylor groaned and picked him up also. "I can't live like this anymore! All they ever do is cry!!"

"They're four months old AJ and can't very well talk and tell us whats wrong! Lower your voice!"

He threw his hands up in frustration, "I can't take this anymore! I'm so angry right now I could throw something! Or hit something!," He yelled.

She set Christopher down in his carrier. "Get out AJ!"

"What?!"

"I said get out! Come back when you've cooled down!"

"Maybe I just won't ever come back!," He yelled before walking out the front door and slamming the door behind him.

Taylor thought, hopefully..he'd come back in a second and apologize profusely. But he didn't. She heard his car start and practically peel out of the driveway. Taylor wasn't overly-emotional all the time..but this was getting to her. Tears started to run down her face as the babies finally calmed down and started to sleep.
