"Ninmu ryoukai." Heero stood, closing his
laptop with a click. The mission instructions had included a rendezvous place to
meet up with the other pilots in the next few hours. He would have to hurry if
he wanted to be on time.
**
The rendezvous spot was a nice house in the outskirts
of a city. Heero hurried inside, so as not to be spotted. Everyone except Duo
was already there. They all looked up from the plans they were studying. Quatre
gave Heero a smile; Wufei and Trowa simply nodded. A few seconds later, an out
of breath Duo rushed in. "I'm really sorry, I'm late, but I had too run.
It's too far between here and the last safe house," the braided death
complained.
If Duo had been expecting sympathy, he was sorely
disappointed. His statement made no visible impression on Trowa, whose one
visible green eye showed no emotion at all, and Heero, who had been glowering at
him since Duo had walked in. Wufei
rolled his eyes, while Quatre heaved a sigh. "I'm sorry, Duo," the
blond apologized contritely, "but we needed someplace close enough to the
school with being in the actual city."
Duo shrugged. "So what's going on?" he wanted
to know. "All I was told was something about getting information from a
school. Why do all of us need to be there?" Scanning the room, his eyes
fell on the plans that had been laid out. He waltzed over to get a better look
at them. And whistled sharply. "If these are the plans for the school, I'm
impressed. I've seen OZ bases with less security."
"Those are only part of the plans. We haven't been
able to get the rest of them." Quatre explained to the rest of the group,
as well as Duo.
"Maxwell is correct. What is so special about this
school?" Wufei put in, slightly confused.
There were assenting nods from the two quieter pilots
along with Duo's incessant barrage of questions. Quatre put up his hands and
motioned for them (or more precisely, Duo) to silence and give him their
attention. It took a few tries, but Duo eventually ran out of questions and
turned to Quatre for the answers. "Maybe I should start at the
beginning."
"Always a good place to start," Duo cracked.
Wufei, the closest one to
Duo, clamped a hand over his mouth and Quatre threw a
grateful look his way.
"The school that we're infiltrating is the CLAMP
School. It... well, how do I explain it?"
At this point Quatre began to dig in the pile of papers that were on the
table. Finally he pulled out an official looking document with a silly,
cartoonish looking blowfish face serving as a seal. The pilot of Sandrock handed
copies of the paper to each of the other pilots. "This is basically the
school in its entirety."
The document read:
"CLAMP School integrates all levels of education,
from kindergarten through graduate school. It was founded by the Imonoyama
Group, the largest financial group in Japan, using their private funds, to
become a modest educational facility for the young adults who carry the future
of the world on their shoulders. Dormitories, banks, hospitals, and facilities
of every kind are available in this large city-school in which students,
faculty, staff, and their relatives, a total of over 10,000, live, work, and
study. The school opens its doors for all persons with some talent, regardless
of class or wealth. CLAMP School is known for its plethora of exceptionally
bright individuals. On the other hand, it is also known for its love of
festivities."
"Cool! Festivities, huh? I hope I get to go to
some!" Duo cheered managing to shake off Wufei's hand.
"Well," Quatre continued, smiling at Duo's
outburst, "I split up some of the assignments that need to get done to even
attempt getting into the school. One
of the problems is that the security for the campus is rumored to be nearly
perfect and no visitors can go in or out without them knowing. Duo, you and
Heero need to forge documents to get us in. Wufei can you-" he broke off,
looking abashed. "Gomen! I didn't mean to try act as leader. I know a bit
about the school, and..." He bit his lip. Trowa put a gentle hand on the
smaller boy's shoulder and graced him with a little smile. Quatre seemed
comforted by this and let his words die off.
Heero nodded curtly. "That seems to be alright.
Trowa, Quatre, Wufei.
Get supplies and anything else we might need."
With that the meeting adjourned.
**
Soon the morning that they would go to the CLAMP School
arrived. Even Duo got up on time,
he was so excited. The uniforms were a little tight, but not anything they
couldn't handle. "Maxwell?" A voice interrupted his thoughts.
Duo turned to face Wufei, sitting at the kitchen counter with Quatre and
Trowa. "I thought we weren't all going to be students. It would
be less suspicious if some of us were staff," Wufei stated. The braided
pilot shrugged.
"We couldn't bypass some of the stuff you had to
input for most of the staff, so we had to trash that plan and input all of our
names on the student roster." Wufei's eyebrows rose when he realized Duo
had been saying that he and Heero couldn't hack completely into the computer
system. The other pilots' reactions were just as shocked. Quatre's mouth was
open so wide that it might have been disjointed, and Trowa's one visible eye was
wide.
Nodding seriously, Duo slid into a seat at the table.
"I sure hope the computers are easier to get into once we're inside the
place," he murmured.

Nokoru was having a good day. It was already lunchtime
and he had only been mobbed three times, most of the mountain of paperwork had
been finished yesterday, and Suoh had spent most of the morning leaning over his
shoulder.
Yes, Nokoru decided, he could get anything done as long
as Suoh was there.
Now he was to have lunch with the Chairman. He liked
spending time with her, he always felt comfortable sitting in her presence. Soon
the short detective arrived at their designated lunch spot, out of the way in
one of the gardens.
She had arrived before him, but that was not uncommon
nor was anything else about her, but something nagged at Nokoru, telling him
that something was wrong. Chairman nodded at him with a smile, motioning for him
to have a seat. "It is good to find the time to have lunch with you Nokoru-kun.
We have both been so busy lately." Nokoru nodded back, always polite. The
pair made small talk for a while, until Chairman turned a solemn look to the
blond boy. "Nokoru-kun, I have a case for your Tanteidan. It is of utmost
secrecy, as I have no wish to alarm the student body."
Unconsciously, Nokoru leaned closer to hear what she had to say.
"There are five students that I neither remember nor have files on. They
essentially have their names on the roster and class lists and only that."
Brilliant blue eyes widened to an almost comic size at
this information, and the young boy barely managed to keep from jumping in
shock. "And you want us to find out the identities of these intruders and
their plans." Nokoru deduced.
Chairman nodded grimly, "Yes. I leave this
important case in the capable hands of the CLAMP Gakuen tanteidan." She
rose gracefully, daintily taking the proffered helping hand. "Be careful
Nokoru-kun." He smiled at her and they parted ways, until their next
meeting.
Watching her back, Nokoru smiled and pulled out his
fan, snapping it open. "I shall do my best," he said quietly.
**
Later that day Nokoru approached his fellow council
members. Suoh looked up, more annoyed than normal, as the blond boy had
obviously been skipping out on his council duties again today, and the piles of
paper had started to accumulate again. Before he could open his mouth, however,
Nokoru spoke.
"Suoh, Akira, we have a very large mystery on our
hands." Quickly the president outlined what the Chairman had told him of
the five mysterious students that had entered the school.
Both boys were stunned. Suoh was making an effort to
stay calm and collected, but his eyebrows were almost high enough to look like
they were in danger of falling off and the look his eyes could only be described
as shell-shocked. The younger Akira wasn't even making an effort to contain his
astonishment. His mouth gaped and his eyes were easily the size of saucers.
"They don't have files? Hidoi! I thought the Chairman remembered every student, like
you, Kaichou!" Akira nearly shouted.
Collecting his wits and composure, Suoh laid a gentle
hand on the treasurer's shoulder. "Calm down, Ijyuin. There may be a good
explanation.
I suggest we collect what data we can find on these
five before we confront them."
Nokoru smiled, flipping open his fan (which had the
kanji for "How intelligent" written on it). "That is a wonderful
idea, Suoh! I have their pictures and the class list. I will go and speak with
the teachers. If any of the students have problems in their classes, the
teachers should come to us first, that way we can get information out of them
first-hand! Akira, Suoh, both of you should also talk to any people in their
classes who might know something." With that said, he flipped open a drawer
and pulled out five pictures and a long list. "Heero Yuy," Nokoru
pointed to the first boy with short brown hair and cool blue eyes looking out of
the photograph with an icy stare, "10th grade, class S. Quatre Winner"
he pointed to the next, a blond this time who was smiling slightly at the
camera, "10th, class K. Wufei Chang," the Chinese boy in the picture
was glowering, "10th, class Y. Trowa Barton, hmmm, I wonder how he got his
hair to do tha- itai!" Nokoru blinked up at Suoh, who had hit him. The
martial artist made a "get on with it already" motion towards the
picture of the green-eyed boy watching calmly out of the picture. "Right.
Trowa Barton, 10th, class K. The last," he pointed with a flourish to the
last, a picture of a cheerfully smiling person with a long braid, "is a
girl, Duo Maxwell, 10th, class H."
The others sweatdropped. "Ne, Kaichou, I think
Duo's male," Akira pointed out.
Fluttering his fan slightly, Nokoru bent down to
inspect the photo. "Oh, I do believe you're correct, Akira!" He
laughed behind his fan, a sound with a slight touch of nervousness, that,
nevertheless, the other boys noticed.
"Well, shouldn't we get going?" As the sixth
grader sauntered out of the room with Akira in tow, Suoh looked around at the
paperwork piled around and sighed. The work obviously wasn't going to get done
anytime soon.
**
The next few days were a blur for both the groups.
Nokoru and the
Tanteidan gathered all the information they could on
the mysterious students, while the pilots got themselves settled into school
life and gathered everything they could find about the security of the place.
Soon the pilots found that they could do very well even in the high level
courses offered by the CLAMP School. Most of the classes anyway.
"A 30 in Physics again!? Oh man..." Duo
moaned, pillowing his head in his hands. The teacher gave him a stern look and
continued to hand out the papers. The
young boy banged his head on the desk a few times and waited for class to be
over so he could go hide.
Eventually the bell rang. Before Duo could make his way
out the door the teacher called him over. "Maxwell-kun, since you have been
having a great deal of trouble in this subject I have decided to get you a
tutor." Sighing, Duo nodded. It
wasn't something he had particularly desired, but it wasn't wholly unexpected
either. The teacher smiled and
waved a dismissal, "I will find someone and let you know when your first
meeting is. Have a nice afternoon,
Maxwell-kun." As soon as Duo left, the teacher stood up and walked down the
hall.
**
The door to the Elementary Division Council opened
quietly. Nokoru looked up automatically, noting the high school lower level
physics teacher that had entered. If he remembered correctly, and he always did,
she taught the class that Duo Maxwell was in. "Good afternoon, Hagana-sensei.
What can I do for you?" He stood and strolled down to where she was
standing, and bowed. "Is there
anything I can help you with?"
She smiled, charmed by the young man. "Why yes,
Nokoru-kun, there is.
Do you remember that cheerful boy, Duo, that you told
me to keep you updated about?" The
detective nodded, although he inwardly winced at the memory of his initial
mistake about Duo's gender, looking up curiously at her and she continued.
"Well, he is having trouble in my class, and I was wondering if you would
mind tutoring him. After all, you
are quite proficient in that subject."
Nokoru smiled sweetly. "It would be my pleasure,
especially if it would help such a lovely lady as yourself. I can meet with him
later today, if he's free." Hagana-sensei broke into a happy grin, charmed
beyond belief by the winning sixth grader's impeccable manners.
"I will tell him that your meeting will be
at," she thought for a moment, "is six o'clock alright by you?"
When he nodded, she bowed and turned to leave. "Six o'clock it is,
then." With that the young teacher left.
Sitting back down, Nokoru folded his arms and reclined
back in his chair, ignoring the pile of papers his foot narrowly missed knocking
over as he put his feet on the desk. "Well, I suppose now I have an
official reason to meet one of our mystery boys."
