My Choice

I see here laid before me
My lifelong treasures pure
All the riches of a lifetime
The tangible and obscure
And of all these worldy riches
I am to pick the one most dear
To hold within my heart
Keep with me ever-near

My childhood hoard of prizes
Is spread before my eyes
But of all these toys and trinkets
There is none that I surmise
To render joy unbounded
Like the treasure I seek to find
To hold within my soul
Leaving all else behind

My adolescense emerges
With infatuations and new love
And the bliss of girlish treasures
Yet none can rise above
The yearning and the need
To fill this vacant hole
Left in the absence of the prize
That's been taken from my soul

Youg adulthood pokes its head
Through this myriad of joys
That hangs before me now
Like a stocking full of toys
Yet nothing from my past
Stirs up my soul within
Nothing earns the prize
That my heart still seeks to win

And still nothing in my present
Nor the future yet beyond
Can break the spell of longing
Or the love which forms the bond
Of yearning and desire
For the prize I hold most dear
For my soulmate and companion
That I choose to be ever-near

Yes, gladly I forsake all tokens
Of future present and past
And even my friends and kinfolk
To be with you at last
For none can quell the burning
Of my love for you so true
So of all my worldly blessings
My darling, I choose you.
