Three-toed/Ornate Hybrid Turtle - Terrapene carolina/ornata

This specimen is a confirmed hybrid of the Three-toed (Eastern) and the Ornate Box Turtles. When alive, this specimen exibited characteristics of both species, such as four hind toes and a keeled shell. These hybrids only occur in captivity and along the overlapping ranges of the Three-toed and Ornante box turtles. This specimen was collected in Southeastern Kansas. It died in captivity.
