Kristi's "Without" Review

Wow! Without was awesome! Much more fast paced than Within. The voice over by Scully in the teaser was great, thought I’d have to agree with my sister… “Chris Carter can’t get past a few words.” The spaceship was too cool as it was coming down and then disappearing out of our sight by the energy field. Very cool! =)
Act one picked up where we left off at the end of 8x01 Within… Doggett yelling at Mulder to let Gibson Praise go. So “Mulder” listens to Doggett and lets Gibson go… Gibson runs off to who knows where. I found the dialogue in this scene very cool. Doggett asked “Mulder” if he had a gun or not… and then came one of my favorite lines: “Don’t turn this into a movie.” By Doggett. “Mulder” never says anything in this scene… he starts to back up and falls off the cliff right as the other agents arrive. They head down to get him… but before they can, “Mulder” (with his arm twisted at the elbow… OUCH!) gets up and runs away before they an find him.
When the agents reach the bottom and discover “Mulder” is gone, Scully and Skinner arrive. Doggett explains what he saw. Doggett explains that he knows Mulder, and that was Fox Mulder. Scully tells him it wasn’t Mulder, and explains that she has seen a man change into another man. Doggett asks what she is talking about and she walks away. “Don’t turn your back on me, I’m asking you a legitimant question.” Doggett demands from her… she tells him it was an Alien Bounty Hunter.
The search for Gibson Praise continues. The whole deaf school is cleared out… and still no sign of Gibson. While all the agents are outside, “Mulder” walks into one of the rooms in the school… and twists his arm back into the correct position… Right as Doggett enters the room! But… when we see “Mulder”… it is infact the principal of the school! So Doggett leaves.
Meanwhile, Scully and Skinner are ready to head off somewhere when they notice Thea (Gibson’s friend at the school) going on her bike somewhere. They start to follow her when Skinner notices they are being followed… “Keep going, I’ll be right behind you.” Skinner tells Scully. Skinner stops the follower, while Scully continues to follow Thea.
Scully follows Thea into the desert… Scully finds her bike on the ground… she finds herself on top of a wooden door. She opens it and finds Gibson and Thea in the bunker. Thea tells Gibson that she didn’t know she was being followed. Thea also knows about Gibson’s mind reading. Scully notices Gibson has broken his leg and makes a temporary cast for him. She tells him that she is going to take him to a hospital, and will be back with a car.
Back at the school, Skinner tells Doggett that he has, in a way, been set up to fail. Skinner doesn’t want that because Doggett is a great agent. They start wondering where Scully is so they radio to see if anyone is with her… no one does… until Agent Crane sees her walk into the room he is in… at the same time, Scully walks up to Skinner and Doggett. There is an intense chase between Scully and “Scully” and the other agents. But “Scully” disappears… or does she… Scully knows it was the Alien Bounty Hunter and says that it could be anyone in the room. I love this scene!!!!
Scully leaves to go get a car to get Gibson… but sees Skinner following her and quickly gets in the car and locks it. She doesn’t has the keys… and Skinner shows her that he does. She quickly gets out the other door and points her gun at Skinner… Skinner does the same. They eventually realize each one is who they say they are. They head off to get Gibson… a very cool scene!!
There is a cut to Mulder inside of the spacecraft and Gibson wakes up with a start saying Mulder’s name.
When Skinner and Scully reach the bunker where Gibson is, he’s not there anymore. They find him sitting outside of the bunker. He tells them Mulder is close, he can feel him. Scully sends Skinner off with Gibson to take him to the hospital. And I love this scene because the BIG flashlights are back!! =)
Scully goes wondering off through the desert, as Skinner takes Gibson to the hospital. When Gibsoon is ‘safe’ in the hospital with Skinner to guard him, Thea arrives… but is it really her?…
Back in the desert, Scully sees a bright light in the sky… but it only turns out to be Doggett in a helicopter. They have a conversation and Doggett tells Scully that he has sent his men to the hospital… and Scully tells him “How do you know that they’re your men?” They go to the hospital.
When Doggett and Scully arrive at the hospital, they realize that Skinner is not with Gibson… infact… they can’t find either one of them. There is some really cool team work with Doggett and Scully… gotta love that!!
Scully wanders down a hall looking for Skinner… and he is in a room… and calls her to him… While Doggett realizes that they got out of Gibson’s room through the celining. He looks above the ceiling and finds Skinner… he is knocked unconscious!! While Scully goes towards “Skinner” in the other room… she sees Gibson’s reflection in a window… he is shaking his head ‘no’… “Skinner” grabs her into the room. “Skinner” tosses her across the room… she shoots him… in the back of the neck…and green blood oozes out of his throat. He kind of melts away like a puddle of mud… Doggett finds Scully and Gibson… Scully starts to cry and Doggett comforts her! =) I love this scene!
There is a time cut to Doggett giving the report to Kersh… and Kersh assigns Doggett to the x-files. Doggett goes to Scully in the hospital and gives her a “Get Well” card. He tells her that Kersh has assigned him to the x-files. The End.
This was an awesome episodes! Mark Snow did an awesome job… and I know we all enjoyed ‘the alien bounty hunter’ music!!! Whoohoo! Kim Manners has once again shined… he’s awesome!!! I give Without a rating of 4 out of 5! Very awesome!
