Biodiversity

Biodiversity: The number and variety of organisms found within a specified geographic region.
- Biodiversity is also called Biological diversity
- Refers to the variety of all life on earth, and the complex relationships among living things, and between living things and their environment.
- Biodiversity includes species diversity, genetic variety, and variability in communites, ecosystems, and landscapes
Threats to Biodiversity
- Human population growth: Humans have been expanding over the contients of increase birth rate. It is estimated that since 1900 more than 90 tribes of aboriginal peoples have gone extinct in the Amazon Basin. This means that not only are humans wiping out animals but also other humans.
- Pollution:
Many of the pollutants entering aquatic ecosystems are very toxic to living organisms. They can lower reproductive success, prevent proper growth and development, and even cause death.
- Habitat Loss:
Many animals are loosing their habitats when humans are cutting down the trees in the forests. 50-80% of the world's species live in forests and are loosing their habitats.
My Point of View:
I think that humans are expanding and cutting down to many trees. We need to perserve our rain forests wer still have left. Some countries in Africa have many forests ad are very beautiful. If they are cut down many animals will lose their habitats. If we end up cutting everything down and killing all the animals, humans will have nothing to eat and we will soon die off also. This would not be good. I think it is very important to save our forests and natural lands.
