Animalia

The Animal Kingdom is very large and diverse, numbering over one million identified species. 3% off the nams are vertebrates(backbone) and 97% are invertebrates(no backbone). All the animals can't make own food, digest their food, move from place to place, and have many Eukaryotic cells. Animals are classified into 9 phylums. These are the three main phylums:
Chordata: These include animals with backbones. Humans are classified Chordata.
Uniramia: These animals have exoskeletons and have jointed legs.
Crustacea: These animals are crustaceans like crabs and lobsters.

Pink Star (Pisaster brevenspinus)

The pink star's genus name is Pisaster brevenspinus and the species name is brevenspinus. They are found in marine environments and can't live in fresh water. They prefer rocky substrates, but the location of the substrates can vary. Some starfish live deep in the ocean and others may live in shallow places. Starfish are reef dwellers as well. Starfish have tube feet called podia. They are used to help the starfish move around, and to grasp its prey. Starfish take in water through a tiny hole called madreporite. Starfish eat a wide variety of prey and are predators to invertebrates such as mussels, clams, oysters, and barnacles. Starfish are capable of extruding their stomachs outside of their bodies, and digesting their food externally. A lot of people see starfish tide pool excursions while on vacation.
