Plantae Kingdom
Characteristics of Plants:
- Multicellular
- Produces food through photosynthesis.
- One of four eukaryotic kingdoms.
- Part of the domain Eukarya.
- They cannot move about.
- Helps provide oxygen we need.
Three main phyla:
- Bryophyta and allies, or mosses and allies.
- Pteridophyta and allies, or ferns and allies.
- Angiospermophyta, Class Dicotyledoneae, or flowering dicot plants.
- Angiospermophyta, Class Monocotyledoneae, or flowering monocot plants.
The plant I chose to do was the Quercus rubra, or the red oak tree. The leaves on this tree are simply broad, flat, and have bristley tips. The red oak tree produces a fruit: The acorn. Normally only an inch wide, the acorn is merley a cup with a fringe. This tree is found commonly throughut Ohio and can grow to be 50' - 70'feet in height, and 1' - 3' in diameter. Trees help create the oxygen we breath. They take in carbon dioxide, and redistribute oxygen. The red oak gets energy though photosynthesis.
