&bsp; It's nearly 2 P.M. here in Lawrence, Wednesday, and I need to be moved into Hearthstone by 6:30. Won't get it all done, of course, but will ride over and take a large bag of "essentials" and work on the rest later. Will be on a 2 week (minimum) restriction. The guys tell me this is honored more in the breach than in the observance, so we'll see. Also am told there's a computer there, but don't know if it's online or what. We'll see.
Day before yesterday suddenly an idea came to me: Millineum T-shirt. Most of you know that I sold over 30 K t-shirts of Diamondhead when I lived in Hawaii, so silkscreening is one skill I do know fairly well. And the design part, too. Long story short, am gonna go for this and see what I can come up with.
Thinking the use that line from "Wizard of Oz" where Dorothy sez, "Gee, Toto, doesn't look like we're in Kansas, anymore..." and change it to not being in the 20th Century anymore. Heh. Kind spooky.
Want to do it on the cheap, so I'll build the one-color screening machine from found ply, use hinges from wherever, and upgrade later. Water-based ink, so this will air dry, then will need to be ironed for three minutes a minimum of 10 days after screening. Sold thousands that way, too, so that'll work.
Main thing now is to get the design done, get an acetate same-size, and get it down to a silkscreen shop to get in burned-in and ready to go. I estimate I can do this for $75, not counting the shirts. They'll be about $30 a dozen, sell for $10 (one side) and $12 (two sides). Quite a little project and I'm already stressing about it.
Nice thing is I've already taken orders for 9 shirts, w/o anyone even having seen the design. That's nearly enough to make it happen, so be sending good vibes my way.
Am thinking they'll make good Xmas presents, so I want to have them ASAP.
Things are happening so quickly. Moving into a place which is demanding $ for me to stay, so that has to be taken care of, plus this design project, plus restriction, plus...plus....sigh.
Just wanted you all to know my situation so as not to worry if I'm not able to make it to the Circle every day. Suspect I will be able to, but wanted you to know.
I feel scared. Kinda silly, yet I've not designed a shirt for a couple of years now and I don't have that financial net to fall back on. This is doing it by the skin of my teeth. Hee.
The back of the shirt will have something along the lines of "This Is My Once-in-a-1000-years, Bringing In the Millineum in Lawrence, KS, T-Shirt." Something along those lines. Maybe drop the Lawrence reference?
Anywho, if any of you have ideas, lemme know. I will also take orders (hee hee), so feel free to order a couple hundred from me. Grin. No, I ship Priority Mail, so it gets there quick.
We'll see how this goes. Mike Bell was really interested, then decided he didn't want to risk losing a hundred bucks, so stepped back. Then when the orders started happening, he wanted back in, but by then I'd determined to go this alone. I don't like having to answer to others, esp those who have no design sense. So there she stands.
All goes well. Bright and sunny, and a queasy feeling in my stomach. Clean and sober going on a month, now, so that, at least, is working. And won't be out in the cold any longer. Great group of guys, really good food (and lots of it), and a safe place to spend the winter. Time to get some things going in my life.
Take care.
