Isn't it interesting how Dickens keeps coming up with these oh so fascinating topics? Haircut? My goodness.
Well, when the shaggies start to become all that noticeable, it's time to do something about it. Sat in the barber chair, requested the top be left alone, the sides fairly short. The barber had been eating garlic, methunks, and was a challenge for my self-discipline. He took off the top, whacked at the sides, and told me my haircut was already discounted so much as to be hardly worth his time.
For the first time in ages, I didn't tip.
We nearly finished the deck last night. Steve, Nancy's husband, was in a grumpy mood and tried to blame me for a couple of his own errors. I am beyond letting that happen and told him so. He started in again and I said, "Steve, REEEEEEEEEEE-LAXXXXXXXXXXXXX." That did it. A couple minutes later and he was apologizing, going on about how he sometimes gets the grumpies.
I know how that can go. Whenever I'm working on a project and I start chewing myself out, I call for a time-out. Then I have to remind myself that if I'm going to act this way, it's not worth doing. A few minutes and the mood passes, I pick up hammer and saw and go at it again.
He can't cut a straight line, and doesn't trust me to do so, either, although I am far better with both saw and drill than he is. I made a little jig which guarantees straight lines some time ago. Meant to bring it last night, but I was running late and didn't. Perhaps tonight.
Only a couple of hours tonight, but at least a bit of $ coming in.
Wilt Chamberlain died. He went to KU, so of course our local papers are full of it. The *Kansan*, KU's in-house paper, has him splashed across the front page. I remember seeing him down on Lewers Street in Waikiki a few years ago, jaywalking, headed for a bar. Only 63.
Homeless Paul sez he's found a notebook computer for $400. Now if he can just come up with the $400 all will be well. Am in the market myself for something to do writing on, so y'all keep yr ears open for such a mythical beast.
The maples are going crazy now, shedding their leaves at such a rate as to leave the yards blanketed, the gutters overflowing. Remember walking down the gutters, kicking the leaves?
This must be a short letter, as I have to get back and head out to the Farm. Hope Steve is in a better mood. If not, I'll straighten him out. He has a good heart, just that he's short-tempered at times. A lot of the child within him. Good guy. Gradually coming to like him quite a bit, considering he married Nancy. Grin. She was on her way to Honolulu to be with me when I met Virginia. Wrote Nancy. She remembered an old boyfriend named...Steve. Hee hee. Funny how things work out.
Am reading poetry, now. Lots and lots of it. If nothing else, my education in literature continues...voluntarily. The best way.
I love you all.
