This is my very first novel about the voyager crew. Although it is not primarily about Janeway and Chakotay, they are the main characters. This story is set up like a two part episode, so every character is given the spotlight, and plays an immportant role in the outcome. My goal is to write an entire season of episodes beggining with this two-parter. So please write me and tell me what you think:-)
Summary: When the Captain is abducted by a mysterious alien, the crew must atempt to find and rescue her. Little do they know that an evil Empire waits in the shadows to devour the crew in a black ocean of fear.
Authors Note: This novel is my baby so I beg you to please be gentle with it. PLEASE send me feedback I would love to hear from you!

His father will be proud of him. Over the past year he had collected samples from every species in the Delta quadrant. Thousands of artifacts and live specimens adorned his laboratory filling his ship with a thousand different smells.
He sat at his desk observing his findings. What a treasure trove he thought. Picking up a small micro-chip, he held it up to the light. He still couldn’t believe that this small thing was able to take over your blood stream in a matter of seconds controlling what you think and changing who you are to service a collective called the Borg. Now those were aliens that you don’t want to meet twice.
His mind raced with all the praise that he would receive, imagining what his father would say.
“Son, you are igneous and- beep beep.” He stood and ran over to a nearby console. A red light was flashing indicating a nearby ship. His fingers flew, pushing buttons and reading scans.
A new screen emerged saying: “USS Federation Starship Voyager, heading; mark 2.74, at warp 6, now within range.”
“What is a Federation?” he thought to himself aloud. The screen flashed again interrupting his thoughts. “Scanning now...species heavily armed, fire at will.”
His eyes enlarged. “I don’t want to take any chances.” He pushed a button and the ship began to fire upon Voyager without a warning.
The bridge of Voyager rocked violently, surrendering to the persistent beating of alien phasers. All crew members remained poised at their stations, expecting anything that may occur suddenly. Energy ran high. Like a group of runners at the starting line, ready to sprint to the finish. Every eye concentrated on a console, every finger flew, every heart pounded so hard that it seemed almost impossible to remain calm. But they did.
Captain Kathryn Janeway sat rigid in her command chair, eyes locked on the view screen. A large vessel, twice as large as Voyager sat quietly within the dark abyss of space. Yes, quietly she thought save for the fact that it continued to fire upon her ship. The aliens hadn’t ceased their firing despite her crews relentless efforts. They had tried everything in the past twenty minutes, but the alien vessel remained silently strong.
“They still aren’t answering our hails Captain.” Ensign Kim yelled over the deafening quakes. The red alert lights cast a scarlet tint onto his youthful face, causing him to look even more worried than he was.
Janeway tapped her communicator. “BE'lanna, can you get us out of here yet?”
Down in Engineering, a small bead of sweat ran down the young Klingon brow of Chief Engineer, B'Elanna Torres. “No Captain, everything down here is either off-line or on the verge of exploding.”
“How much longer until you can get the warp core back on-line?” Janeway took a deep breath already knowing the answer.
“15 or 20 minutes-” Torres’ voice said through the Captain’s communicator. Just as Janeway thought, not fast enough. B'Elanna continued, “depending on if I can connect the icelinear chips to the warp matrix-” the ship rocked violently throwing B'Elanna head first into a nearby console. “Owe...”
“Be’lanna.” Janeway called.
“Yea, I’m all right, it’s just these damn explosions, I can’t get anything done.”
“Keep working, Janeway out.” The Captain stood and looked at her Vulcan security officer, who’s face seemed even darker under the bridge’s dimmed lights. “Status.” She demanded.
“Shields down to 52 percent and dropping.” Tuvok replied while at the same time bracing himself from the harsh bolts of energy. His calm expression remained unaltered. The explosions didn’t seem to bother him the least bit. “If firing continues shields will breach in 4 minutes and 52 seconds.”
Janeway walked up to the operations station. “Ensign, scan their ship for any targeting weaknesses.”
“I’ve already tried that Captain and, they seem to have a technology that unables us to scan any part of their ship.”
“The Ensign is correct Captain, they do have a technology that is substantially superior than anything we have seen.” Tuvok informed her.
The Captain spoke loudly so that everyone could hear her. “I don’t want to know why we can’t fight them, I want to know how we can fight them.”
The floor lerched and the Captain almost lost her balance.
Tom turned to face the crew from his post at comm. “Was that just my imagination or are the explosions getting bigger?”
“Captain, shields have dropped to 30 percent.” Tuvok reported.
“Ensign Kim, revert all remaining power to the shields, including life support.” The Captain ordered.
“Yes mame.” Kim hollered.
“Captain,” Commander Chakotay stood close beside her, his intense and calming presence comforting her. “what if we sent out a techeyon beam to weaken their shields? It might be enough to knock them out so we scan for any weaknesses.”
Janeway looked at him for a second, noticing an urgency embedded in his soft dark eyes. “Do it.” The Commander nodded and headed toward comm, where the young toe headed pilot sat.
“Tom, send out a level five techyon beam.”
“Aye Commander, techyon beam emitted, now.” Lieutenant Tom Paris recited.
The console chirped at Harry Kim. “The aliens shields are down to 84 percent and dropping. 75 percent, 62 percent, 70 percent.” Harry frowned. “Captain they’ve caught on, they’re raising their shields again.”
Chakotay frowned as well. “Tom raise the techyon beam to level eight.”
“Sure thing Commander.” Tom raised the beam just as another jolt rocked the ship. The console where he was sitting exploded into thousands of small particles of metal throwing Tom into the air.
Chakotay kneeled down feeling for Tom’s pulse. “He’s just unconscious. Ensign Rollins take him to sick bay.” Rollins lifted Tom and headed to the turbolift. The Commander took Tom’s seat at the comm, what was left of the comm anyway. “Captain, this isn’t going to work, we no longer have access to the techyon beam.”
Janyway, was slowly becoming frustrated, and tired of feeling like both of her hands were tied behind her back. “Tuvok what is the status of our ship?”
“Shields are at 78 percent and holding, deck 6 has been damaged and crew members are evacuating, the energy matrix is ruptured and repair teams are on their way, there has been 12 casualties and no deaths. 20 other damage reports have been sent in and taken care of.” The Captain smiled, continuously amused by Tuvok’s extensive details.
Another explosion rattled the bridge. Janeway held on tightly to the center railing that divided the upper and lower halves of the bridge. Her grip remained tight. So tight, that her knuckles began to turn white from the pressure. Tom was right, Janeway thought, the explosions were getting bigger.
“Harry,-” the Captain began.
“No Captain I don’t know why the explosions are getting bigger, it makes no sense.” The Ensign stood at his console with an expression of puzzlement engraved on his face. “I don’t understand anything about this species.”
“What I don’t understand,” The Commander walked up to the Captain from where he was sitting. “is, if they have such advanced technology why haven’t they destroyed us.”
“Perhaps,” Tuvok contributed to the conversation. “they do not wish to destroy us.
“Why?” Harry asked clearly at a loss.
“Captain,” Seven of Nine had been listening from a lower deck in astrometrics.
“Yes, Seven.” The Captain responded.
“The Borg encountered this ship ten months ago, I believe I know how to discontinue the explosions.”
“Report to the bridge at once.”
“Yes Captain.”
A few minutes later Seven walked through the turbolift onto the bridge. Her lean figure turned and headed towards Harry. “I require to use your station.” Pushing him aside she began to work. Then she paused, remembering what the doctor taught her to say. Looking at him, void of all emotions, she added,”Thank You.”
Harry smiled and the Captain was obviously impressed. Janeway made a mental note to compliment the Doctor on his progress with Seven. Although she had a long way to go, the Doctor deserved a pat on the back. Janeway was sure that his work hasn’t been easy, teaching a former Borg to become human again is hard. Janeway knew, she had done her share of teaching Seven herself. The whole crew has. But at the same time Janeway couldn’t help but wonder if Seven hasn’t taught the crew a thing or two as well.
The Captain walked up to Seven. “What’s your plan?” Silence followed. Janeway was just about to ask the question again in case Seven didn’t hear her over all of the racket produced by the explosions when Seven spoke.
“By creating a mironic shield-”
“Mironic?” Harry repeated.
Seven simply shot an ice cold glance towards Harry, then continued, “I can mirror the Aliens phasers to produce a similar explosion aimed toward their vessel. It will be a large enough explosion to knock out their shields. They will react efficiently, you must react just as quickly if you are to affect them.” Seven looked up awaiting a response.
Janeway approved. “Good job Seven.” She turned to Chakotay and with a nod they both returned to the center of the bridge. Janeway focused on the view screen. She stared at the large alien vessel and smiled. This just might work she thought. “Seven, get ready to create mironic shields, on my mark.” Here goes nothing. “Now.”
“Which one could it be.” The short, and quite colorful, alien stood before a platter of different gadgets all lined up in a row. Neelix was in Sick Bay. The Doctor requested his help almost an hour ago and since then Nelix had endured more than he had bargained for. The Doctor had expected him to know everything from A to Z about Medicine and so far all Nelix could understand was how much the Doctor wanted to throw him out. That man really does need some happy pills Nelix thought. Back where I came from there was a substance called happy pills. They grew in the marsh lands of Talx hill. Every year all the Talaxions on the planet would travel to Talx hill to eat happy pills and-
“Neelix! What in Sam’s name are you doing?”
“Coming,” Neelix grabbed the whole tray and walked over to the Doctor. “I am sorry Doctor. I guess I got a little distracted.”
“A little.” The Doctor said, clearly irritated. Neelix still couldn’t believe how intricate the Doctor’s program was. Sometimes Neelix completely forgot that the Doctor was an emergency hologram, activated when all of Voyagers medical staff was killed.
“I was just remembering one of the holidays that we used to celebrate back on Talaxia.”
“Good for you.” The Doctors tone of voice hinted that he wanted Neelix to shut up, but Neelix thought that his story would be useful for not only the Doctor, but all the patients as well.
“Every year me and my family would travel with the rest of the Talaxions to Talx Hill,”
The Doctor rolled his eyes and moved on to the next patient, with Neelix following closely behind.
“we would travel for six days, or maybe it was four, no it couldn’t be four days because my sister pushed me into the lake on the fourth day and we were only half way to the hill, so maybe-”
The Doctor turned to get his tricorder but instead ran into Neelix who was still trying to figure how many days it took to get to the hill. “Neelix!”
Neelix looked up from counting his fingers. “Yes Doctor?”
The Doctor took a deep breath and counted to ten. “I am trying to get my tricorder.” He told Neelix with as much patience as he could muster up.
Neelix chimed in, with his cheery disposition. “Let me get it for you, after all that’s what I’m here for.”
“I wish you weren’t.” The Doctor said under his breath.
“Did you say something Doctor?” Neelix asked while reaching for the tricorder at the end of the table.
“No I didn’t.”
“Okay dokay, here is you tricorder.”
“Thank you Neelix, what would I ever do with out you?” The Doctor proclaimed sarcastically.
“No. Thank you Doctor. I have had the most interesting experience here today. I might even start training in the medical field.”
“What!?” The Doctor almost screamed.
“Well I know that Tom doesn’t exactly enjoy being your nurse, so I was going to ask the Commander if I could train with you to become your nurse, it would be fun hanging around my buddy all day,”
Shaking his head the doctor cut in, “No it wouldn’t, because if you became my nurse then I would lock myself in the brig. Do you know how much you drive me crazy?! You have slowed my work down by 30 minutes. See all these patients?” He made a sweeping gesture with his hand. “They would be gone, not here, nowhere near here. Do you know why?” The Doctor answered before Neelix could assimilate his words. “Because you have done nothing but start thousands of stories, and never finish them, making my patients sicker then they already were!” The Doctor was raving mad and Nelix almost felt sorry for the poor man. “ I want you to leave my sick bay and I never want to see your, short little pudgy face that looks like a spray can disaster, again! Now, get out!!”
Normally Neelix would take the Doctors sudden outburst as a sign of stress but this time was different, this time it hurt to hear those words. “OK Doctor I won’t ever bother you again.” He turned and faced the patients laying in sick bay. “I’m sorry folks for bothering you all.” And with a very saddened heart Neelix left sick bay.
When Tom heard the swishing of the doors closing he opened his eyes. He had been pretending to sleep during the entire heated argument. “Hey Doc,”
The Doctor turned “Mr. Paris you should be sleeping.” He walked over to Tom, who was just sitting up.
“Yea well I’m not, I was busy listening to you and Neelix.”
The Doctor made a face. “I’m sorry you had the misfortune of hearing Neelix drone on, and on, and on. That’s probably why you didn’t fall asleep, then again why didn’t you fall asleep his stories were boring enough?”
“Judging by what I heard, Neelix seemed hurt by what you said to him.”
“Since when did you become the expert on sociology.”
“Since I started dating Be’lanna, and believe me I know a thing or two about hurting feelings. I think you should apologize to Neelix, I mean, just because he’s a little annoying-.”
The Doctor rolled his eyes in disagreement.
“OK, very annoying, but he didn’t deserve what you said to him.”
“Well, well, look who grew a heart.”
“Very funny.” Tom smiled at the Doctor. “I’m serious.”
The Doctor, let out a large sigh of irritation and began to push Tom out the door. “Now, If you’re well enough to give me unwanted advice then go and rest in your room.”
Tom soon realized that his efforts were falling upon deaf ears. He turned and walked out of sick bay. He began heading towards the turbolift when the ship rocked harder than he ever thought was possible.
