Shockley Cretaceous Fish Site

Levin Fossil Collection

This site is located northwest of Smith Center, Kansas and this is the second fish to be found near this site. Through the courtesy of Richard Shockley of rural Smith County, I was able to remove the fish shown in the following pages.

I originally went to the site to look at a Xiphactinus audax I had previously seen in Richard's driveway. But, the driveway had been revamped and the fish was once again covered with matrix. But, Richard said "I know where there's another one".

Due to the willingness and courtesy of Richard Shockley, I was able to dig. Have a look at the following pages as the fish is removed from it's 65 million year old resting place.
