Baikulu was an old abandoned shepards settlement and was basically a marshy place.

Mouneet promptly stepped into a marsh sunk in to his hips.

We had a hard time finding a reasonably flat place to pitch the tent. The place that seemed the best was on a slight incline, so we had to make do with that.
We managed to set up camp before it went dark and this time managed to get a fire going with relative ease. Our cook Joginder Singh soon had some tea ready. There is nothing like sitting and drinking hot sweet tea (laced with vodka) after you have been drenched and chilled to your bones.

The incident about the bear happened here, near the solitary pine tree.
Chetan and I were parked on a rock and Mouneet came sauntering up after his layering session was done. Chetan just pointed out to a movement he saw in the trees and I yelled "it's a brown bear" that was enough and Mouneet went running all the way uphill yelling at the top of his voice (click here).(you will need  to hear Mouneet) Now Chetan and I joking and we thought that Joginder and Debbie knew about it, but they all thought that we had really seen a bear and the poor chaps spent the whole night keeping a watch for the bear. They kept dumping kerosene in the fire so it would remain big and bright.
By now Mouneet was a nervous wreck and was halfway through his will and final testament.
That night Mouneet slept between us so that the bear would have more choice. And when he went out to his usual business he was a nervous wreck.
But the night went peacefully and no one was mauled or killed.

This place was desolate, no doubt, but it was astoundingly beautiful. In Dodi Tal we were in a valley surrounded by mountains. Here we were on a mountain top surrounded by valleys. The photograph does not do it enough justice. These place are not meant to be admired from photographs, you have to go there and breathe in the crisp mountain air, feel the morning dew on your nose and stare at the star studded sky at night to experience these places.

After you experience it once you keep coming back for more. The Himalayas have cast their spell on you.

From Baikulu we went to Hanuman Chatti and then Back to Uttarkashi.

So ended our trek.

But not our holiday, from Uttarkashi we hit the road to MANALI

But before you go to Manali please read this...
