Along with my fellow Americans and those around the world, I am in a stunned state of shock and sadness, due to the tragic, violent and unnecessary events in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania today. Suddenly, my problems are dwarfed by the reality that exists around me.  Movie reviews, personal problems, traffic jams and work issues suddenly seem inconsequential in the grand schemeReuters Photo.

I, like most, have struggled for words to express, do justice and honor the horrific occurrences.  They are scattered and unorganized. There will be plenty of words, thoughts, visions, opinions, beliefs and ideals which will come out over the next days, weeks, months, years and decades, but for now, our focus must be elsewhere. This is clearly the most tragic event to occur in the history of our country, if not the world.  In a span of a few hours, our perceptions of reality, its celebrations and pitfalls, were put into a whole new perspective. A faceless madman has delivered a shock to our system, the after effects of which will be felt forever.

Associated PressAs we struggle to grasp onto the who's and why's, we must remember to focus where it is due. My thoughts and prayers go out to the innocent victims and their families.  You will remain forever in our hearts and thought, your memories will live on, your loss will be avenged, and the shining light of your spirit will be missed.  We are strong, we are the United States of America.  United in hearts, we shall stand again. We shall mourn, we shall come together, and come back, stronger than ever.

Though I may not be the first, nor last to use them, the prophetic words of John Lennon have never rang more true in the ears of a nation slammed into a frightening, painful reality. (see also, a fitting, beautiful and amazing tribute from Kat)

Moments of silence, lifetimes of memories, changed forevers.

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us, above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.
