Rowan was formed in 1997 in Wichita, Kansas by Anne Crane, Dean Karres, Doug Harvey and Lance Zimmerman. Marianne Carter and I happened to share a "Westside Folk" concert with them in 1999 when she and I were briefly performing as a duo. After Anne and Dean resigned in 2000, Doug and Lance relocated to Lawrence where they invited the two of us to join. So, I was in Rowan from 2000 through 2004. We released this CD in 2002.I resigned the end of 2004. I am selling my share of CDs for $4, plus $2 shipping within the US. This album is sold elsewhere, such as on www.CDBaby.Com, for $15 plus shipping.

* Marianne's soulful versions of "Rising of the Moon," written about the failed Irish Rebellion of 1798, and the traditional song "He Moved Through The Fair." She also sings the little-known lyrics to "Little Begger," a traditional Irish song that Bluegrass enthusiasts will recognize as the fiddle standard "Red Haired Boy."
* Doug's rousing version of Richard Thompson's "Down Where The Drunkards Roll" and a traditional English poem called "Lost Lady Found" that he set to original music.
* Larry's upbeat, modal version of "Star of the County Down," including a re-write of the lyrics so that the fellow might actually have a chance at marrying the girl.
* Lance's version of "The Naked Highwayman" - a rolicking Steve Tilston / Fairport Convention song about - what else - sex, crime and getting one's due.
