(written by Michelle) Jess groaned as Scott threw his arms around her face, cutting off her air supply for a second or two. "That's it," she whispered, getting up and allowing the small child to take up the whole bed. "I'll just sleep on the floor tonight," she mumbled to herself as she set up a little bed. Jess felt a slight breeze blow through her hair and over her body as she finished up, "That's strange, none of the windows are open," she whispered, a strange feeling growing in the pit of her stomach. She turned around to see that her balcony doors were cracked, the breeze was coming from them. "You're going to make yourself nuts, Jessica. Did you think this place was haunted with the ghost of Brian?" her mind told her body, laughing at the very thought.
Jess reached to shut the doors when something came over her, she opened them wide and stepped out onto the balcony. She expected to hear it creak and groan beneath her, but to her surprise, it was a brand new balcony. Jess smiled as she touched the new metal that supported her, it was so much nicer than the other one. She sat down in the corner where she used to put her chair and wrapped herself up in a blanket. The memories she had created with Brian out here were threatening to overwhelm her. "I miss you so much Brian," Jess shouted to the night wind.
Jess looked over to the neighbor's house just as a light in the back bedroom came on, not wanting to be seen, Jess laid herself flat against the cold steel. She watched quietly through the rails as a shadowy figure came to the window. From her position, Jess couldn't tell who it was. The light turned out before Jess knew it and she was back on her feet again, breathing heavily. "That was too close," she told herself, trying to create friction on her freezing arms. Jess stood outside a couple more minutes until she noticed a shadowy figure running across the yard, heading straight for her spot on the balcony. Jess froze in fear, she didn't know what to do as she watched the figure near her. When the figure fell it broke her from her trance and she quickly ran inside to gather up Scott and get Jade awake.
Jess bounded down the stairs as fast as she could, Scott had woken up and was screaming for Jade. "JADE!!!!" Jess hollered, hoping that her friend would awaken and come running. "Jess, what is it, what's wrong," Jade did in fact come running. "Someone's coming across the yard, we have to call the police," Jess said, stumbling over the words with fear. Jade quickly ran to the back patio doors and stood looking for the person Jess had said was running through their yard. "I don't see anyone, maybe they were just taking a shortcut through the yard," Jade said, taking the crying Scott from her best friend. "NO," Jess demanded, "I know what I saw, it was heading straight for me," she continued. "Well, I don't know what to say, whoever it was is gone now," Jade tried to calm her friend down.
"Well, I'm sleeping down here with you tonight then, I'm not taking any chances," Jess said, heading upstairs to get her blankets. Jade turned and watched as she stomped up the stairs, pausing only shortly at the top. "Mommy, who's that?" Scott said, pointing out the patio doors. Jade turned around slowly to see a shadowy figure running around the side of the house. "OH MY GOD, JESSSSSSSSS!" Jade screamed, running to the stairs. "What? What is it???" Jess said, emerging at the top.
"Some, Some, Someone's out there," Jade sputtered. Jess was about to say something when the doorbell echoed it's song throughout the house. Jade and Jess looked at each other for a moment before Jess ran down the stairs and peeked out the curtains. When Jade saw her face again it was pale and Jess looked frightened. "Who is it?" Jade asked. The response was a whisper; "It's Nick."
