Jess opened her puffy eyes, the sun was shining through her windows brightly, arousing her from her peaceful slumber. She looked over at the clock, it read 9a.m. Jess tried hard to remember what day it was. Last night seemed like forever. Actually, it seemed like the first day of the rest of her life. She looked over and found the bed next to her empty. She wondered if last night with Brian was all a dream... that is, until she looked at the chair in the corner of the room. There, curled up in a ball on her overstuffed chair, was the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with... eventually.
Jess watched as the air filled his lungs and his body rose with each breath. She loved the way his sandy blonde hair was all messed up--he was so handsome like that. Jess took the comforter off her bed and wrapped his body up with it, the air conditioning was stuck on high so she knew that he had to be cold. Jess carefully slipped her socks on and climbed down the stairs for some breakfast. She found her roommate at the stove already cooking, for what looked like an army, sleep still clinging to her eyes. "Jade, what are you doing up?" Jess asked, pulling the orange juice from the fridge.
"I think the question is, why are you still here, Jess?" Jade answered back, staring at her roommate and best friend. "What do you mean?" Jess asked, taking a piece of bacon from the stove. "It's thursday, do you need me to explain?" Jade asked, mentally counting the seconds 'till Jess realized that she had to be at practice in 20 minutes. Jade started laughing when Jess started cursing. "Crap, Jade why didn't you wake me up?" Jess screamed, looking for her sneakers while pulling her hair up. "Me? I thought you were the responsible one here. And keep your voice down, you'll wake up Kevin," Jade said, waiting for that one to sink in to her best friend's brain. Jess scrambled for her keys but stopped abrupty.
"Don't you mean Scott?" she asked Jade. Jade just pointed her head toward the living room. Jess looked in to find Kevin's large frame sprawled out on the smallest couch they owned. "No you didn't!" Jess squealed, playfully slapping her best friend's arm. "I'll tell you all about it later, just go," Jade said, pushing Jess out the door. "Wait," Jess stopped, "What about Brian?" Jade smirked. "I'll tell him to come by for dinner tonight, you'll cook, be home by 6," she said to Jess, throwing her out the door.
Jess made it to practice just in time to get a lecture from the head athletic trainer on the responsiblities of being a trainer and how they're supposed to be at practice before all the athletes. Jess barely heard him, she thought about Brian the whole day. But she saved some room for Jade's going-ons the night before. The day dragged on for way to long for Jess; 5 o'clock didn't come fast enough. She made it home just in time to grab a quick shower before starting dinner. Jess decided on italian chicken, Brian's favorite dish of hers.
While she was getting everything together, Jade came home with Scott to inform Jess that she, Kevin, and Scott would be joining her and Brian for dinner. "No problem," Jess told her, "but while I'm doing this, you're going to tell me what happened last night!" Jade set the table, her face expressionless. "You're not going to believe what happened," she started.
