Chapter 13

(written by Lacy)

Kevin looked at Jade with a blank expression. She bit her lip and looked down at the dark green grass they were standing on. "What, Jade? What the Hell is it that you haven't told me already?" he asked. She looked up at him, trying to figure out how to tell him. "You cheated on me, Jade. You FUCKED another guy!" he yelled, grabbing her chin and forcing her to look at him. "No, Kevin, NO!" she cried, falling down at his feet and sobbing.

He closed his eyes tightly and turned his head towards the sky. He hadn't meant to make her cry... he never wanted to hurt her. But a part of him wanted her to feel the pain he was going through. He looked down at the blonde woman crying at his feet and felt his heart breaking into a thousand shards. But no matter how much he wanted to bend down and pick her up in his arms, he couldn't get the picture of her and another guy out of his head. And she had had a child... a boy. Some other man's son. The thought was too much. Mustering all the strength that he could, he looked down at the love of his life one last time before walking away from her, leaving his heart and the only woman he would ever love behind him.

Hanging up the phone, Jess looked at her watch and sighed. Jade and Kevin had been out there for almost 3 hours now. Hoping she wasn't going to interrupt something, she walked out onto the back patio. But the only person she saw was Jade, laying on the hammock with her back to her. Walking over to her best friend, she had a gut feeling that something was horribly wrong. "Jade, what happened?" she asked, kneeling in front of her and seeing her puffy red eyes and tear streaked face.

"I ruined it, Jess... I ruined it," Jade said, covering her face with her hands and crying harder than ever. "Shhh... it's gonna be okay," Jess soothed, hugging her tightly. "No, that's just it, it's not! It's never going to be okay ever again!" Jade yelled, her hands muffling what she was saying. "He thinks I cheated on him, Jess. And I didn't say anything to disuade his opinion, either... I'm a horrible, awful person," she continued.

Jess sighed. So that's what had happened. For some reason, she wasn't surprised. "Jade, you'll just have to tell him the truth. You're gonna have to sooner or later," Jess said. Jade uncovered her face and stared at Jess. Without another word, she stood up and walked into the house, closing the door behind her. Jess sighed and stood up, running her hands through her wind-blown hair. She knew she had hurt Jade's feelings just now, but someone had to knock some sense into her. She was ruining her life, as well as Scott's, rather she realized it or not. Suddenly, Jess remembered about the barbeque she had promised AJ they would show up at. Not wanting to face Jade again, but knowing she had to, she brushed the hair out of her face and walked into the house on the search for her best friend.
