On this page I will list the Eight Sabbats for Witches as well as some of the rituals and greenery that go with each.

YULE

21 December

Yule is the celebration of the rebirth of the God Who died at Lammas. Yule is a dark time. During this time of the year we await the return of light. During this time you should decorate your home and alter with the appropriate colors. Also if at all possible you should burn a Yule log. Sing Yule songs and dring Wassail.

Herbs include: Holly,Mistletoe,Rosemary,Oak,and Pine cones

Incense used include: Bayberry,Pine,Cedar,Rosemary,and Juniper

Colors are: Red,Green,White,Silver, and Gold

Decorations include: Yule log(Oak or Pine),Mistletoe,Wreaths,Strings of dried flowers and Cinnamon sticks,Apples,oranges, and a Yule tree.

Foods include: Nuts,Apples,Oranges,Caraway rolls,Mulled wine, and Roast Turkey

IMBOLC

2 Febuary

Imbolc is a happy time. It is the return of light to world as we leave the dark winter. You should celebrate by wearing a crown of lights. Decorations include:candles,lanterns, and anything else that gives light and warmth. If you have a cauldron or can celebrate outside you should also build a central fire.

Herbs include:Snowdrop,Bay,Heather, and First flowers of the year.

Incense used include: Rosemary,Cinnamon,Westeria,Frankincense, and Myrrh

Colors are: White,orange, and Red

Decorations include: Lamps,Besom(Witches broom), and Yellow flowers.

Foods include: All dairy products,Curries,Onions,Chives,Garlic spiced wines,seeds, and Herbal tea.

Ostara

22 March

Ostara is one of the celebrations of fertility. Ostara is a good time to plant a seed and to observe it's growth throughout the year. Try planting a small garden or perhaps a tree.

Herbs include: Honeysuckle,Iris,Peony, and Violet All spring flowers

Incense used include: Jasmine,Rose, and Strawberry

Colors are: Green and Yellow

Decorations include: Colored eggs,Rabbit decorations,Green and Yellow jellybeans, and Spring Flowers.

Foods include: Fruits,Spiced or Flower cupcakes,Seeds,Hard boiled eggs, and Leafy Green Vegetables.

Beltane

1 May

Beltane is another fertility rite. Celebrating includes dancing a merrymaking around the Balefire,this usually includes a Maypole. Fire should be included in this celebration as "Bel"(the Celtic God from whom the name of the holiday is derived)means "sun".

Herbs include: Honeysuckle,St. John's Wort,Hawthorn, and All flowers.

Incense used include: Frankincense,Lilac, and Rose

Colors are:Green,Soft pink,Blue, and Yellow.

Decorations include: Maypole,Strings of beads or flowers,Ribbons, and Spring flowers.

Foods include: Dairy,Oatmeal cakes,Strawberries,Wine,Punches,Cherries, and Green salads.

Litha

21 June

Litha(also known as the summer solstice) is when the time for play starts to wane and the time for study starts to wax. At this time of year the Goddess enters her mother aspect.

Herbs include: Lavender,Chamomile,Roses,Daisy, and Lily.

Incense used include: Frankincense,Lemon,Rose,Wisteria, and Lavender.

Colors are: Blue,Green, and Yellow.

Decorations include: Dried herbs,Seashells,Fruits,Summer flowers, and Potpourri.

Foods include: AleMead,Fresh vegetables, and Summer fruits.

Lughnasadh

7 August

Lugnasadh(also known as Lammas) Is a time of moorning because of the passing of the God. It is a time of rememberance of all that the God has given you that year, and it is the time of the first harvest.

Herbs include: All grains,Heather,Sunflowers,Grapes, and Blackberries.

Incense used include: Sandalwood,Aloes, and Rose.

Colors are: Yellow,Orange,Brown, and Green.

Decorations include: Crafts,Shafts of grain,Corn Dollies, and Any wheat weavings.

Foods include: Blackberry pies and jellies,Meadow sweet tea,Berries,Breads, and Cider.

Mabon

22 September

Mabon is the fall equinox. This is the time of the final harvest of crops. It is a time of rest and a time of balance, because day and night are of equal length.

Herbs include: Hazel,Corn,Oak,Pine cones,Cypress cones,Acorns, and Wheat stalks.

Incense used include: Apple,Sage,Nutmeg, and Mint.

Colors are: Orange,Yellow,brown, and Dark red.

Decorations include:Pomegranates,Baskets of fallen leaves,Pine cones,and Acorns.

Foods include: Cornbread,Beans,Apples,Cider,Roots(carrots,potatoes,onions), and Squash.

Samhain

31 October

Samhain is a time of rememberance of those who have passed into the next life. It is a time when the viel that separates the seen from the unseen is at it's thinnest. During Samhain it is very easy to communicate with those "other" realms. Divination comes easy at this time of year.

Herbs include: Pumpkin,Broom,Sage,Oak leaves,Nuts,Apple, and Thistle.

Incense used include: Apple,Sage,Mint, and Nutmeg.

Colors are: Black and Orange.

Decorations include: Apples,Fall leaves,Photos of deceased loved ones,Jack-o-lantern,Autumn flowers, and Squashes.

Foods include: Herbal tea,Nuts,Cider,Mulled wine,Pumkin dishes,cranberry muffins,Apples, and Corn.
