The Tools on listed on this page are some of the tools used by Wiccans during rituals. Each tool is very personal to the Witch that uses it. If you ever aquire a tool from another Witch you should cleanse it thoroughly before using it. If you purchase your tools new, never argue about the price. It is disrespectful for the tool. If you cannot afford the price or the price is to high for that item then that item is not meant for you. I have found that when looking for a particular tool I have always managed to find it without much hassle. Many times after I have turned down what I thought at first where better alternatives.
The Athame is a dagger used by Wiccans in rituals. It is used to caste the cirle in the absense of a sword. It is 9 inches long and double edged. Traditionally the handle is black but that is not a requirement.
The Mortar and Pestle are tools used for grinding substances to powder such as herbs and incense. You can find them at K-mart or other department stores in housewares.
The Pentacle is a round flat surface, preferably a heat resistant surface, That inscribed with a pentagram. The Pentacle represents Earth. It is used to hold items and tools being concecrated and charged during rituals.
The Cauldron is a cast iron pot that sits on three legs. It is used to mix things as well as hold the balefire, needfire and other smoldering fires during indoor rituals. Sometimes hard to find, you might try some of the online stores or possibly someplace that sales cast iron.
Candles are used for several purposes, such as representing the God and Goddess on your alter or certain colors used for certain spells. They are also used for the purpose of setting the spiritual.
The Broom is used for cleansing and protection. Sacred to the Goddess, the broom is used to cleanse the sacred circle before and after rituals as well as placing across thresholds, windowsills, under beds and across doors to protect from evil. Round brooms are prefered by most Witches.
Incense is used to represent Air as well as place the user in the mood. I use different incense for different things. Any incense may be used. I prefer the stick incense though most prefer the self lighting powders.
Representing Water, The Chalice is used to hold your water, wine, or juice or what ever you have decided to use. The Chalice is usually a goblet of some sort that you use with your cake and cup part of your ritual. Watch out for using silver with wine though because it has a tendency for becoming toxic.
The Wand is used similarly to the Atheme. Representing Air it is used to caste the cirlce.
The jewelry you wear during rituals should be reserved for rituals only. Jewlery is concectrated and cleansed like any other tool. When a Wiccan puts on his or her jewlery and robe he/she is clueing their mind to the fact that they are about to perform a ritual and helps for concentration on the ritual.
