Chapter 7 (the last chapter)
That Wednesday, the phone rang in the Hanson household.
"It's for you, Tay," said Mrs. Hanson.
"Hello?" said Tay.
"Taylor? This is Dolly," said Dolly. Taylor gulped and squeaked out,
"Dolly?"
"Yup. Anyway, you won't believe what happened when I asked if you guys
could perform at the dance!" said Dolly.
"What?" asked Tay.
"My teacher didn't believe me! She thought it was some sort of sick
April
Fools joke!" said Dolly. She was fuming. Then she calmed down.
"Anyway, I thought you guys could just come with us. It will be fun! And
this way you guys won't be mobbed," said Dolly.
"Ok. Well, that sounds good. I'll just tell my bros about the change in
plans," said Taylor.
"Great!" said Dolly "I guess I'll see you Friday, then."
"Yeah. See you later," answered Tay.
"Bye!" replied Dolly. Then she clicked off. Taylor hung up the phone and
called out.
"Ike! Zac! Get down here! I gotta tell you something!" Tay called out.
His brothers came barrelling down the stairs.
"What's up?" said Ike.
"That was Dolly. She said That they don't need us to sing at the
dance,"said Tay.
"Huh?" said Ike. He didn't bother trying to hide the disappointment in
his voice.
"But the girls still want us to go to the dance with them," Tay
continued.
"Oooooohhh. Ok. Now I get it," said Ike casually. But his heart was
beating fast. So was Tay's. Taylor let his thoughts wander to the dance.
He imagined holding Dolly in his arms. Her long, dark, hair cascading
down her back. Pulling her close at the slow songs and whispering in her
ear . . .
Zac sat thinking to himself. "Hmmm. If I'm not gonna play, what am I
gonna DO all night at the dance?" Then he thought about Hope. "Maybe not
playing isn't such a bad idea after all . . ."
Ike found himself picturing Beatrice. Her thick, red wavy hair mixed in
with his light brown hair. His amber eyes gazing into her green ones . .
. * * * * *
--That Friday--
Beatrice heard her door bell ring. She shrieked. Then she remembered
that
that Dolly and Hope were coming over. She ran to the door and opened it.
There stood Dolly and Hope. Beatrice ushered them upstairs to her room
and closed her door.
"So, what are you going to wear?" Beatrice asked Dolly. Dolly smiled at
Hope.
"First, open this. Consider it an early birthday present from me and
Hope."
Beatrice opened the bag. Inside was a deep satin, green and blue skirt.
Beatrice smiled. She thanked her friends and exclaimed about how pretty
it was. She went to her bathroom and put it on. When she came out, her
friends hooted and laughed.
"Oooh! Hot Mama!" said Dolly.
"Yeah! And she hasn't even done her hair or makeup yet," said Hope.
Beatrice blushed and started to comb her hair.
"Ok, my turn," said Dolly. She went into the bathroom. When she came
out,
her friends gasped.
"You look so. . .so. . . tall!" said Hope. Dolly and pointed at her
shoes. They were really cool ones that laced up her calf. And they had 3
inch heels.
"I just hope I don't fall!" joked Dolly.
"Omigod! No glasses! You look so nice!" said Bea. It was true. Dolly was
wearing clear contacts. You could now see her deep, dark brown eyes.
Hope whistled. "And check out the outfit!"
Dolly was wearing a short , soft black leather skirt. She had a
sleeveless white shirt with it, and over that a jacket matching the
skirt.
"Fan-tas-tic!" said Bea.
"Now I just have to do my hair, and a little makeup," said Dolly. She
sat
on the bed.
"Your turn, Hope." Hope smiled and went into the bathroom. When she came
out, Dolly and Bea stared at her in astonishment. She was wearing white
flare pants, with a black, red and white striped tank top. She had a
matching vest for the pants over the tank top. The three girls crowded
around the mirror. Dolly let out a low whistle.
"We look HOT!" she said. They all laughed .
"Now lets just do hair and makeup and we'll be ready to go," said Bea.
"Let me and Hope do your hair and makeup, Bea," said Dolly.
"All right," answered Beatrice. She sat patiently while the two girls
'fixed her up' in Hopes words. When they were done, Beatrice gasped at
what she saw. They had brush her hair until it shone. Then they had
curled he ends of her hair under and created a layer effect with a
curling iron. They had put some strawberry lip gloss on her that gave
her
lips just a bit of color and shine. And they had put some pale green eye
shadow on her .
"Your a knockout!" said Dolly. Bea turned red.
"Let us do your hair and makeup now, Dolly. It will take FOREVER because
of your hair," said Bea. Dolly laughed and sat down. When they were
done,
Dolly looked in the mirror.
"Whoa!" she said. Hope and Bea had put up half of her hair in a high
ponytail. The front half of the hair they curled with a curling iron so
that a bunch of sausage curls hung down. Then they had braided the top
of
the ponytail and made big knot, so it looked like there was a braid
holding her hair, They had put a maroon tinted lip gloss on her, and
they
had outlined her eyes with black eyeliner.
"Whoa!" they all said. Dolly blushed and turned to Hope.
"Your turn," she said, "and we gotta hurry! The guys will be here soon!"
Dolly sat down Hope. When the girls were finished with Hope, She looked
up and her jaw dropped open. The girls had fixed her hair in a low bun,
and had put a flower hair clip at the top of it. They had curled a few
wisps of hair and let them hang naturally around her face. The had put
just a smudge of clear, shiny lip gloss that smelled good on her, and
put
some pale silver eye shadow on her eyes.
"You look awesome!" said Bea.
"Yeah, she knows. Now, you and Hope gotta grab some shoes, and then
we've
got to roll. It's almost 6:30!" Said Dolly. The girls decided on a pair
of white sandals with green trim for Beatrice and Clear Jellies for
Hope.
As soon as the girls had finished putting on their shoes, the door bell
rang.
"They're here!" screeched Dolly. They heard Beatrice's Dad open the
door.
"They'll be right down," they heard Beatrice's dad say. Then he called
them down.
Girls! The boys are here!"
The girls trooped down the stairs. When they saw the Hansons, they're
heart skipped a beat.
"Oh, my," muttered Dolly just as Tay said "Wow!"
Tay was wearing a pair of wide leg black jeans with a black and navy
blue
dress shirt. He had a soft, black suede jacket on top. When Bea looked
over at Ike, her heart melted, as did his. He was wearing kakhi dress
pants and a white polo shirt. Even Zac had gotten dressed up! He was
wearing navy dress pants with a white and navy dress shirt. Dolly,
Beatrice, and Hope walked over to the guys, and the 6 of them walked out
the door into Ike's black Saab. Ike opened the door for Bea, as did Tay
and Zac for Hope and Dolly. Dolly laughed.
"You guys have such good manners!" she said. The guys blushed.
"Nah. Ike just told us that we should," replied Zac. The girls laughed
as
Ike turned red.
"Zaccccccccccccc!" said Ike.
"Sorry!" said Zac. Then Ike drove of towards the dance.
"Wow! This place looks great! You have a really nice school," said
Taylor, as they walked into the dance.
"Not really," said Dolly. "This is a really rubbish school. But they
somehow make it look nice for every dance," she said.
"I think it looks awesome," said Ike. The guys looked at the girls.
"So, we gonna dance or what!?" asked Zac. They all danced and moved onto
the dance floor. The D.J. was playing fast songs. 'Boom Boom Boom' was
blasting from the speakers. Dolly and Tay were dancing together. So were
Bea and Ike. Zac and Hope, However, had different plans.
* * * * *
"Zac. Psst. Come here," whispered Hope. She took Zac to a corner of the
room. "These are some of my friends. Chris, Laura, Katie, and Jena."
"Hey," said Zac.
"Hi," they said. Laura looked at him closely.
"You know, you look like . . Nah.," she said.
"Ok, we're going to do some, shall we say, pranks."
"All right!" said Zac. "Now the party begins!"
* * * * *
Bea and Ike were dancing. The D.J. was playing all loud dance music, and
Beatrice was more then a little disappointed. She was hoping for some
slow songs to dance with Ike. She kept wishing that he'd put his arms
around her, and pull her close, and whisper in her ear . . .
"This song is for all you couples out there," The D.J.'s voice
interrupted Bea's thoughts. He started to play Monica's 'For You I
Will'.
But after while the beginning chords of the song were playing, a girl
went up to the D.J. and whispered something in his ear. The D.J. smiled
and nodded. Then he cut of the music.
"To start of the slow songs of the evening, I was going to play a slow
song by Monica. But I just had a request for a song by the new band
Hanson. Here is ' I Will Come To You' The D.J. put on the C.D. Ike
looked
at Beatrice and smiled.
"Talk about ironic," he said.
"Yeah. But I still love this song," said Bea softly. As the song played,
Ike pulled Bea closer. She sighed with pleasure, and put her arms around
his neck. Then she leaned on his shoulder and closed her eyes. She
wished
that this moment could last forever. But the song was over much to soon.
Bea stayed in the position she was, thinking the D.J. would play another
slow song. But the D.J. cut of the music.
"We're gonna take a short break," he said. Bea looked up, disappointed.
But Ike had a sparkle in his eyes.
"Lets go outside," he whispered in Bea's ear. He took her hand and led
her outside. He sat down under a tree, and Bea sat down next to him. She
looked at Ike and waited.
* * * * *
Ike looked at Beatrice. He saw the way her hair shone in the moonlight.
And the way her eyes sparkled when she got excited. He smiled at her and
she smiled back. He scooted a little closer to her. Beatrice's eyes
began
to sparkle and shine. In a husky voice Ike said,
"Bea, I know I haven't known you very long. But I feel like I've known
you my whole life."
"I know what you mean," said Beatrice. Ike swallowed and continued.
"This is really hard for me to explain," said Ike. Then he looked into
Beatrice's eyes. And suddenly, he wasn't nervous anymore.
"Beatrice," he said in a low voice.
"I like you. I mean, really, really, like you," he said.
Beatrice smiled. "I like you a lot too, Ike," she said.
"Then, you wouldn't mind if I did this?" he said. He pulled her close
and
gently kissed her lips. Once they`d finished and untagged themselves,
he looked at her. Beatrice was smiling
contentedly.
"Not at all," said Beatrice. She put her hands around his neck and
kissed
him deeply. Ike put his hands around her hips and kissed her back.
"Whoa," he thought to himself.
"I guess she does like me," and there Bea and Ike sat, under the tree,
kissing in the moonlight.
* * * * *
Zac and Hope were in the Soc. Studies classroom. The were tee-peeing
everything in sight.
"Wait. I ran out of paper," Zac heard Hope's voice, but when he looked
around, he couldn't see her.
"I'm up here," said Hope. Zac looked up and saw her standing on top of a
counter. He walked up to her. At that moment, Hope felt herself fall.
Zac
ran forward and Hope toppled down on top of him. The two got up, and
Hope
looked at Zac.
"Zac, you saved my life!" said Hope softly.
"Nah., I just, kinda, softened your fall," he said. Then he thought to
himself, "Lame, Zac. Real lame." He wondered why he always felt so
tongue-tied around Hope. Then he looked into her eyes. On impulse, he
held out his hand. Hope took it and they walked back to the dance hand
in
hand.
"I have a feeling that things are going to be different now," Zac
thought
to himself. Then, when he looked at Hope, he thought "But maybe that's
not such a bad thing."
* * * * *
Tay and Dolly were on the dance floor. A fast song had just ended. Dolly
looked at Tay. Both of them were tired, but neither one wanted to admit
it. They just wanted to keep on dancing. Then they heard the D.J.'s
voice,
"This is a song for all you couple's out there," he said. Dolly smiled
as
the beginning chords of 'For You I Will' stared playing. Then the music
was abruptly cut off as a young girl whispered something in the D.J.'s
ear. He smiled and nodded. The D.J. said,
"I was going to play Monica's 'For You I Will', but I just had a request
for a song by the new band Hanson. Here is 'I Will Come To You'!" the
D.J. exclaimed. Dolly smiled at Tay.
"My, you guys are the popular ones. But of course, we all knew that,"
she
said. Taylor blushed. As the beginning chords started playing, She felt
Tay pull her closer. She felt her heart beat faster. She rested her head
on his shoulder. Then she felt her ankle suddenly twist, and she fell to
the floor.
"Dolly! Oh, my god! Are you all right!" Said Tay. He sounded extremely
worried.
"Yeah. I guess I'm okay," said Dolly. Taylor put one arm around her and
helped lead her outside.
"Let's go to the car," said Tay. "I think we have some first aid stuff
in
there," he said. He helped Dolly get to the car. When they got there,
Tay
gently let Dolly off. Then he remembered.
"Car keys!" he said. "Oh, I am so stupid!" he said.
"No your not!" said Dolly "And don't ever think you are," she hobbled
over to the trunk of the car and jumped and sat down on the trunk.
"Come, sit. You must be tired from lugging me across the parking lot!"
she said. Tay jumped up and sat next to her. He took her hand and looked
into her eyes. Then the two looked at the sky.
"It's such a beautiful night!" said Dolly. Then she looked at Taylor.
* * * * *
Taylor looked into Dolly's eyes. He saw the way they shone and were
filled with energy and life. Tay gulped. He knew what he had to do, but
he didn't know how to do it. He cleared his throat and spoke.
"Dolly," he said.
"Yeah Taylor," she said. Her voice was soft and sweet.
"Well, I have something to say to you, but I don't know how to say it.
So, I'm going to sing it to you," Taylor looked at Dolly and sung.
"When you have no light to guide you, and no one to walk beside you, I
will come to you, Oooh, I will come to you," as he sang, he saw Dolly's
eyes glistening. A tear fell from her eye and landed on his jeans. In a
soft, husky voice Dolly sang.
"When the night is dark and stormy, you won't have to reach out for me.
I
will come to you, Oooh, I will come to you," as she was singing, she
moved her face closer and closer to Tay's. Taylor gently wiped her tear
away. He moved closer and gently kissed her lips. Then he smiled softly.
Dolly looked at him and smiled back. Then she leaned in closer and
kissed
him softly. Then he deepened the kiss. When they broke apart, Taylor
said
softly,
"Even if we can't be together, we'll be friends, now and forever." Dolly
sighed contentedly and sang.
"And I swear, that I'll be there, come what may," then she smiled, "I've
always loved that song." Taylor grinned.
"So do I," he kissed her again. And so they were like that, kissing
under
the stars.
"So"Dolly thought to herself, "Dreams do come true!"
