This is my Chat Story
It all began innocently enough...I started chatting from the computer room on the college campus of Wichita State University in Kansas. I didn't know very much about computers, so from here on out, any/everything I would learn would be new to me. I somehow stumbled upon the Yahoo! chat program, and liked the relative ease of use. When I started, I was the President for the Fall '96 Pledge classfor Sigma Alpha Epsilon, so my chatname was SAE_Prez2B. For that entire semester, I surfed around Yahoo!, just plain old chatting in Entertainment categories. Somehow, I came upon the Books and Literature chatroom, and being an English major, fit in well there. At the time, I was only chatting about once a week because I was involved in so many activities on campus and in the Greek system. The next semester, I was elected to the active chapter Chaplain, so I changed my chatname to Chaplain_SAE. Again, I was very busy and had little time to chat, but came in whenever I was in the computer lab. About mid-way through that semester, I found out that the girl I was dating was pregnant. I was very stunned, to say the least. I was in no position to be able to call myself any kind of father, so I had to start making alot of changes. The life that I knew had ended. I began working 40 hours a week as a waiter in addition to the 16hrs. of college credit that I was enrolled in. I dropped all of the offices that I held, and began paying off bills and saving money to pay for the baby stuff. What this meant to my chatlife was: I began chatting every night from 11pm-5/6am to get away from the problems that were bogging me down. I was having trouble handling the whole situation, and to be quite honest, I needed someone to talk to that was unbiased on the situation. At this time, I changed my chatname again, this time to SAE_244112, which is my initiation number. This was a very pivotal point in my life, and I found friendship, a shoulder to lean on, and some sanity in an insane life. Some of the pivotal people in my chatlife at that time were Poetic_Goddess, who I repeatedly spilled my guts to; Kilroi_, who would listen to me and give some insight to the situation when I had trouble dealing with it; The-White-Rose, who basically held my hand through the entire pregnancy; and Heavenleee, who would just listen to what I was going through and give a good B&L hug. I don't mean to discredit the friendship I have with any of the people I mention above, but at this time, I limited the number of people that I opened up to. I made it through that semester and the following summer, and began working about 60hrs/wk. on a third shift job. I only chatted in the mornings on tuesday and wednesday, which were my days off, but still stayed in touch with the friends that I had established in the B&L room, which was making the transition to Gorpies. We had our baby in October of 1997, and my life was changed forever. I found out just how expensive a baby can be, and was hit with many other monetary challenges, all but forcing me to begin working 70hrs./wk, virtually eliminating my ability to chat. For months, I would only chat occasionally, but did find the time to meet Arklady and Wolfenarialda, since they have family in my town of wichita. More recently, I have had a little more time to chat and work on this homepage since I found a job that pays a little better. We are currently buying a new house, we have a 7 month old little girl(as of June 1998), we are getting married in July, and my chatname is SAEcurt. That is the entire story (moderately abridged, of course) for anyone who cares to know.
