Baseball Is America's Favorite Pasttime

These are, in my opinion, the two best players in modern baseball. Joe DiMaggio has the title for the all-time best player, but in today's world, Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire are the embodiment of all that makes baseball the american pasttime. This is a portrait from the latter part of the 1985 season, taken in Oakland, California when Jose Canseco was just beginning his career. The next year, Jose would be named rookie of the year, and followed that with a spectacular season in 1989, putting up numbers unmatched at that time: 40 homeruns - 40 steals. For those of you who think he is washed up, he is on pace for another 40-40 season this year with 24-21 so far this season (at the All-Star break). For those of you who don't like him as a person, you are entitled to your opinion. I feel he is a little misunderstood and has made some serious mistakes in his life. What do you know -- Jose Canseco is HUMAN after all. As for Mark McGwire, there aren't enough good things that i can say about him; he is truly a man who loves the game and loves the true fans. Please understand that i am by no means a bandwagon jumper...i have followed McGwire since he was with Canseco in Oakland...i don't have the time to claim to be his numero uno fan, but i like Mark McGwire the man, as well as Mark McGwire the baseball player...he has my utmost respect.
