One of the few Beatles records I never had the interest to buy
myself was "Yellow Submarine". The main reason was that, although
the CD had(and still has) only four original son, George
Martin's orchestral tracks were not entirely of my interest.
Enter the end of the millenium and the three surviving Beatles
get involved with a new project: the release of a revamp edition
of the album including all the film songs remixed and remastered.
I immediately bought it, since the recordings sound better than
in the original. For example, George Harrison's "It's Only a Northern
Song" finally found a true stereo release, and the title
song finally received a decent mix, since both in "Revolver"as in
the original "Yellow Submarine", Ringo's voice was in one channel
with a few sound effects and the other instruments were all basically
in the other channel.
We also find in the album a "new" recording of "Hey Bulldog"
and for the first time "It's All Too Much" appears unedited,
regaining the verse it had "lost" in the first release.
Finally, "Think For Yourself" appears in stereo, differently
than it did in "Rubber Soul".The other songs appear mainly as they appeared in their original albums,
but remixed to ADD instead of the original AAD , they surely sound
fresher than they did before.
The album sleeve also looks great, with images from the film,
which also received a full VHS and DVD release including
parts that had been originally ommitted from the 1968 release.
It is a great buy, even if you already have all the CDs of
the Fab Four. Sorry , purists, but this release surely sounds
incredibly better the other albums
