Liber AL I:34 - Rituals and their study

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law

The constant assumption of individuals doing Therion's rituals is the idea that the whole ritual is given. This is in error. There are numerous necessary details that he leaves out. There is also the statement from the Book of the Law (AL I:34)"...the ritual shall be half known and half concealed..." It is my personal conviction that this situation exists so that the practitioner must be conversant with both general practices and ritual theory. Be that as it may, the situation exists and must be dealt with.
The largest detail that Therion leaves out, yet implies constantly, is that one is working in a proper temple with magic circle and all the weapons listed in Book Four:Part Two. Yes, it is very necessary. It is often difficult to achieve. personally, I have, on occasions too numerous to mention, had to do without. The student must work such difficulties out as best they can.
For other details it is merely necessary to consult Magick:In Theory And Practice. Therion's assumption is that one is capable of applying what one has read. Here is mentioned the knocks, circumambulations, oaths, etc. These are more than just window dressing. The oath, for example, defines one's self and one's presence in the circle. In full, it is the purpose the ceremony is directed toward. To leave it out is akin to having a running car without a driver.
An interesting thing Therion neglects to explain is the elemental and astrological attributions of this ritual. Taurus in the east, Leo in the south, Scorpio in the west, and Aquarius to the north. These are the Fixed Signs of the Zodiac and have a dynamic on the plane of the will. Oddly enough, the direction attribution is incorrect. The Procession of the Equinoxes have shifted the signs deosil. Taurus is becoming the sign just prior to the Summer Solstice. We leave this area of research to the reader.
Now AL I:34 is not to be questioned by the likes of us. The problem it presents is actually very simply solved. The rituals do not hide the same parts! All one has to do is compare them to each other. The Star Ruby requires the use of the NOX signs. But it does not give them. Numerous individuals have questioned me on this. I tend to ask how thoroughly they have read Magick:In Theory And Practice. For lo and behold they are right there in Liber Reguli. As a further example, the Mass of the Phoenix requires adorations from the Book Of The Law. I have seen this done several times without them. The verses required are AL III:37 & 38. The verses even identify themselves as the adoration. A further missing piece of the Mass of the Phoenix is it's association to Liber Resh.
We will leave further considerations of specific rituals to other articles. However, do not expect to be better than Therion. I will assume you have read all relevant material. If you haven't, you shouldn't be doing the ritual!
