EISENHOWER FACTS


Dwight David Eisenhower was born the third son of David and Ida Stover Eisenhower on October 14th, 1890.

Dwight grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1909. From 1909 to 1911 he worked at the Belle Springs Creamery in Abilene. (Which by the way is in danger of being torn down.) (Bids are now being taken for the demolition of Belle Springs Creamery, looks like we've lost this piece of History.) It's too late. Belle Springs Creamery came crashing to the ground the third week in April, 1998.

On June 14, 1911 Mr. Eisenhower entered the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. He graduated on June 12, 1915.

He married Mamie Geneva Doud on July 1,1916. Together they had two sons:
First son: Doud Dwight Eisenhower born September 24, 1917, died Janurary 2, 1921. Final rest place, Place of Meditation, Eisenhower Center, Abilene, Kansas.
Second son: John Sheldon Doud Eisenhower born August 3, 1922

General Eisenhower was a Five Star General. He had a vast military career spanning from 1911 - 1952.

On June 4, 1952 General Dwight David Eisenhower announces his candidicy for President, on the Republican ticket, in Abilene. He was elected on November 4, 1952.

Mamie Geneva Doud Eisenhower died November 1, 1979. Final resting place, Place of Meditation, Eisenhower Center, Abilene, Kansas.
