  Born on Earth, Relian Kru the son of Perrin and Elayne Kru. Relian has a younger brother, Matt, who is married with two children. Relian's father belonged to the Merchant Marines and is now retired. Relian's early childhood took him to several different worlds while he travelled with his father and family. There were also long periods of time where he was left on Earth with his mother and brother while his father was on missions. His father was a harsh and strict man, always expecting the best from his sons, especially his eldest, Relian. At an early age, Perrin enrolled Relian into self-defence training. "Any son of mine is going to learn how to take care of himself," Perrin always said. Relian excelled in his martial art studies and enjoyed being good at something - and always tried hard to impress his father. Not being very adept at his other studies, like his younger brother Matt, Relian embraced the combat arts and the starfleet law with a passion. As Relian progressed he became more involved in different forms of armed and unarmed combat. Travelling to other cultures brought him in contact with other combat arts and philosophies. In his early teens he was fascinated with Klingon and Cardassian cultures. These warrior races gave him new insight to his training. He even had the opportunity to be trained by a Klingon - someone know by his father. Hank learned to speak Klingon, learned of their rich culture, and was taught some of their combat techniques. Other styles were investigated through holo-taped lessons. He even learned to speak a bit of the Cardassian language. Relian joined Starfleet, intent on becoming a marine. His combat skills gave him an advantage over the other cadets, but his lack of skills in the sciences prevented him from graduating with honours. Relian was promoted to second lieutenant upon graduation. Proving his combat prowess, Relian was given the opportunity to enrol in advanced special operations training. It was there that he truly felt at home. Gaining training in special operations, covert operations, reconnaissance, hostile world survival, and other specialised skills, Relian excelled. He was commended for graduating first in his class. On his release from the academy, Hank was assigned to a special ops unit. During the course of his career, Relian was assigned and given command of several marine units. He participated in numerous encounters with the enemy and has obtained a lot of experience with active duty. His crass and aggressive nature has provided several opportunities for reprimands during his time in Star Fleet, although these same characteristics have show to be assets in combat, as shown by the commendations he has received. His passion is for all things martial, especially weapons and combats. He holds several high ranks in unarmed combat and has studied many forms of alien combat. He also has a small collection of ancient weapons, which he is able to use with surprising efficiency. He prides himself on his physical condition and he spends most of his spare time training. Although he is not adept in highly technical matters (giving reason for his lack of promotion), he uses every bit of Holodeck time he is allowed. He has created several combats training programs designed to teach and give experience in everything from solo survival techniques to unusual combat situations. He also has several programs specially made for Borg encounters. He has been reprimanded more than once for overriding the safety precautions of the Holodeck and his frequent trips to the infirmary prove he has not learned his lesson. "You only perform to the peak of your abilities when you know it's real", he has been known to say. Most people tend to stay away from his programs, which he cheerfully offers to anyone. During his assignment on the USS Wichita, Relian obtained his first encounter with the Borg. A surprise attack beamed several Borg aboard the ship. During the encounter, Relian's wife was killed and he received a severe head injury, destroying his left eye. He rallied his troops and was able to thwart the invasion using an experimental tactic involving hand-to-hand weapons along with specially tuned phasers. Relian thought he saw a glymps of his wife - with Borg cybernetics - when the remaining Borg beamed off of the ship in retreat. After it, Relian returned to active duty. During an argument Relian struck a superior officer in the jaw, breaking it in two places. Fellow crewmembers overheard the officer remark that Relian was responsible for the capture of his wife. The officer pressed charges and had Relian demoted. Relian was then posted to special operations training facility as a trainer. Relian comes across as a grizzled old veteran with plenty of war stories and a great respect for discipline (but no tolerance for incompetent officers - hence his present position). The only story he will not tell, and he has a lot to tell, is the story about how he lost his left eye. It is interesting how he has never had it removed, as if he wants to keep it as a reminder.
